I sent this Rose rookie to Field of Dreams in Vegas last Saturday and Pete signed it today. Tracking shows it is supposed to be back to me on Wednesday.
I'll post scans of the signed version when it comes back, this will be my neatest signed rookie so far. Rose has a pretty sweet deal if you are a fan of his. You can order signed items, and he will call you personally on the phone and you go to a link on the web, and you can watch him talking to you and signing your item. I didn't do this with this rookie as I didn't know you could do it at the time. However, if any of you are Rose fans, the price is pretty reasonable considering you actually get to talk to Pete and can save the video and audio on your PC for a keepsake.
Take care,
Mike

Was it wise getting his rookie signed though?
or is that what makes it cool?
I would think a less valuable card would be better?

I see you used one that was creased....

Are you gonna have it holdered?
I posted a couple of times about a friend seeing Pete in Vegas and getting me a ball - personalized as a present. It was very thoughtful of him.
He told me Pete was really nice and of course allowed pics with the people picking up the sigs.

<< <i>Looks like I just found what I want from my wife for my birthday Yes, married long enough to where the "other" birthday present takes a back seat to talking to Pete Rose >>
Here's a link for you for the Rose experience. The next one is Sunday night at 7:30 so you better hurry if you want to get in on this one.

It was probably not wise from a monetary standpoint, but it's worth more to me signed. Has more intrinsic value for me to know that rather than just rolling off a printing press and me entombing it in a slab to stare at, that for the brief time the athlete signed it, I captured that time period (then I can stare at it ) . I'm trying to put together a collection of signed Topps baseball rookie cards of Ryan, Rose, Aaron, Brock, Gibson, Yaz, Jackson, Killebrew, Kaline, Schmidt, Seaver, Perry, Jenkins, Palmer, McGwire, Bonds, Clemens, Koufax, Mays, F. Robinson, B. Robinson, Gibson, McCovey, Stargell, Brett, Yount, Murray, O. Smith, R. Henderson, Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, Mattingly, etc, etc. etc ., and the greats of the other sports (IE, Gretzky, Jordan, Tiger, etc.) I'm sure there are some I missed on my list above, but its mainly the good rookies of each year of Topps issued cards that haven't passed away yet. Of course, I would love to have a signed Mantle rookie, Clemente rookie, etc., but I don't have those kinds of funds. Maybe one day, when I have the rest complete, I can pick up some of those. I'm also working on getting multiples of some good ones to use as trade bait for some of the ones that I can't get myself, for example, I will have 4 signed 68 Ryans in a few weeks.
This new project gives me something to shoot for within reason for me, and most of them are obtainable without breaking the bank Mostly people that I either read about growing up, or saw play in my impressionable years. I was born in 1970, so some of those guys were before my time, but my dad used to tell me about some of them. I really don't care for most of today's modern players on the whole, as a matter of fact, I wouldn't recognize Lebron James if he was sitting right beside me, or many of the major league stars of today.
And your right, I'm going to try to use low or mid grade examples, the really nice examples are too much for me to risk sending all over the country trying to get signed. I am a natural risk taker, but I try to not be too risky with my limited hobby funds.
Take care,
Mike

Mike,
Yep, I'm going to have it slabbed when I get it back. I joined that PSA collectors Club a couple weeks ago with one of the primary reasons, so I could submit autographed cards in with their $20.00 pricing. That will make my collection display better when everything is in a uniform holder. That's a nice surprise you got from your friend. Personalized even better. I am going to Vegas on a business conference in November, so I might pick up another one before then to take out and get signed in person just so I can meet Pete. Would be a fun visit.
Take care,
Mike

<< <i>Nice! I've been looking to get a signed Rose rookie at some point. What did you pay for the card raw if you don't mind me asking? >>
I was going to ask almost the same thing. How much was the card and auto total?

I don't mind. I paid $212.64 including shipping/insurance on ebay for the card raw. Field of Dreams charged me $70.00 for the signature and shipping, so total cost was $282.64.
It was hard to find a raw Rose on ebay for a reasonable price. I didn't want to pay that much, but I kept watching them sell for more, and then I saw some reprints going for over $100.00 so I finally said to heck with it and bought the $212.64 one.
Mike
great card!

<< <i>Thanks for the info. Did you request the non-Sharpie signature? I think it looks better in ink than it would in Sharpie. It's probably worth the $20 to get it slabbed as authentic by PSA/DNA or BGS/JSA, just to protect it. I've been thinking about buying a PSA 4 or 5, cracking it, and bringing it to a show sometime to get it signed. >>
I didn't request the non-sharpie signature. I figured they'd know better than me what would look best. Yeah, I'll get it slabbed to go with my others so they will all be uniform, as least as uniform as possible as I have some by PSA/DNA and some by JSA/BGS, I trust them both.
Mike
Congratulations on a nice project that didn't break the bank.
Thanx for sharing - very enjoyable.

<< <i>I got Al Weis earlier this year on two items TTM for free. I don't know if you want to go that route to add another signature to the card.[/q
Metrotheme,
Thanks, but after giving a lot of thought to getting multiple signed rookies, I've finally decided to just get the superstar to sign them. However, I do have an extra Ryan rookie already signed by Ryan that I'm probably going to get Koosman on as well, just for the novelty of it.
Take care,
Mike
