OT But an eBay Question Which I see a lot of.

So I sold an item on eBay about a week ago and shipped the item March 12th priority mail and the item still hasn't arrived. I provided them with the delivery confirmation number which isn't working for some reason. On the 19th they have opened a dispute and are insistent it is my fault since it is "the sellers job to ensure the package arrives". Not only in the dispute have I included the delivery confirmation number but also a screen grab of my credit card account showing the purchase from the post office. He originally called me a scamer but is now asking me to file the PS Form 1510 as soon as possible, which I'm assuming is him saying I'm not just taking his money and running like he was originally saying. Am I wasting my time not escalating this dispute or even with all this stuff seemingly in my favor will I still loose? Or do I look bad by escalating it and not just "talking it out" like paypal says to do?

Sorry to ask you guys here its just you guys seem pretty knowledgeable on the world of getting messed with by paypal.

Thanks
Kyle

If/when the DC shows the item was delivered, PP will end the dispute......if the buyer does not.

Items over $250 require SigCon to qualify for PP Seller Protection.

Sellers are responsible to deliver ordered merch as advertised.

Who is this clown you sold to I'd like to block him!

A week after the sale and he's whining he hasn't received it, I'd tell hime to wait another week

The PO won't do anything until 30 days has elapsed.

I agree tell this guy that he need some patience.

I thought Paypal wanted 10 days (or more) to file?

Was this an item valued over 250.00? if so the buyer may be scamming you.

Knowing that you needed a signature he may be using that against you and thus that may be why he
wants you to file with the PO. I assume it was insured?

In any event if it was insured the PO will not do anything until 30 days has elapsed.

    Good luck with this one.

  • It wasn't insured. It's worth 100 dollars so it isn't a case of a scammer. I told him to be patient originally and then he opened the dispute when I refused to give him a refund. Just didn't know if I myself should escalate this dispute and hopefully get the hold off my account.

    Thanks for advice so far,

The hold will come off when you can prove delivery, Or when you refund the impatient buyer.

  • I typically wait about two weeks after payment has been recieved to contact the seller, sometimes longer. No reason to freak out after 1 week. I hope he dosn't buy anything from me, geez.

    Ditto.

When I buy stuff, I wait 30-days before I inquire.
That cuts way down on my having to inquire.

That is good to know. I did not know that paypal would allow a buyer to file so soon?

  • Was insurance an option in this auction? In other words, did the buyer refuse the insurance, or did you just anticipate that Del Confirm would be sufficient and not offer it? I NEVER sell anything, NOR do I BUY anything, no matter how cheap, low cost, etc...I ALWAYS pay for insurance. Del Confirm just states that it got to its destination, not to the addressee. This COULD be a case of a scammer. BUT, does Del Confirm work through tracking on your home computer, or is it like insurance, where the PO has to run the number? Either way, I would never ever ship, or as I said before, have anything shipped to me, without it. Insurance is mandatory, and for that extra couple dollars, averts situations such as this. Sure, if it is lost, or a scammer, you will get your money from the PO (after pulling a few teeth), but putting that black sticker on the package is your safety net as a seller OR buyer.

And as storm888 points out, sellers are responsible for delivery. NEVER ship/have shipped, without proper insurance...
  • Besides, we ALL know how efficient the USPS is. No offense to postal employees out here....but I can say, in the Boston area, and in my city specifically, postal service is AWFUL...ESPECIALLY on the part of the letter carrier.
  • It's a lesson learned in the school of hard knocks at the least. While my way of doing auctions worked fine for 200 and some transactions, but one bad transaction is definitely making me rethink my more relaxed approach.

    Thanks for all the advice,

    Kyle

I have sold a couple thousand items on e-bay, while some transactions were sticky I have talked most of them into being patient and every time the package eventually shows.

with well over 1,000 ebay transactions i give the usps highest of honors as only one item never arrived.

delivery confirmation is tracking that can be done at any pc but ...i find you have to it scanned at the counter by a clerk or it will be in the grey till delivered as i've used 24 hour kiosk machines over the mess bizz hours can be.with no scanning of item till at delivering station."at counter by a clerk=instant entry in sysytem"

of note too is i've never anywhere stated in ebay auctions that delivery confirmation is part of agreement or to be paid as it's for my protection and proof
