17 cases of 1996-97 sp basketball. (Next closest was probably 1995 playoff prime football (2 cases))
Sent in over 500 kobe's to SGC and PSA.

Good old days.

I remember I sold a 10ct lot of allen iverson rookies raw for $280.00 on ebay. Those were the days.

Lets hear what product you guys cracked the most..

  • Not all that interesting, but the most I ever ripped was a Rak Case of 1986 Topps baseball.

I think it was 6 boxes, each containing 24 racks of three packs each... lots of cards...

My numbers might be a little off, but I had a TON of cards!

    Good fun!

As a kid i'd say 1966 topps baseball.

When I had my store I opened case upon case of everything.

I'd say 1987 topps was the most,,,,,,,,,,for baseball

  • 1977 Topps Mexican Football!

Probably bought and opened 10-20 boxes during the period when I was building my set up from the initial 100-150 cards I got from my friend in 1977 to the 350-400 card range, after which it stopped being cost-efficient to open boxes since I was getting only 2-3 new cards per box.

1987 Topps. It was the first cards I started opening in boxes, and I think it was when SamsWholesale, and therefore Walmart, started selling cards.

    The same image

Then is was 15 cases of 2000 Upperdeck.

Side note while we're talking old packs. My cousin won a pack of 78 Topps a few weeks back off Ebay. He waited until I stopped by to open it. And when he did.....Yup, I ate the gum. Nasty stuff!!

Two wax cases each of 84 and 85 topps baseball. In 84, they were saying Daryl Strawberry was the next Mantle, and me and a friend were trying to get as many of his rookies as possible. Another get rich quick scheme up in smoke.
Incidentally, in the spring of 84 nobody had heard of Mattingly and he had a monster year that year, so I had to go back through both 84 wax cases later and pick out all the Mattinglys'.

1987 Donruss - and I still think it's an attractive set with the black borders - good rookies in it - all in all, not that embarrassing.

1982 Topps...I can still remember buying a full cello box in Jan 1982 when they first hit the stores, and watching Cincinnati beat SD in brutal cold weather in the AFC playoffs.

When the bottom fell out on wax in the early 90s.

    89D - 5 bucks a box - my son and I opened about a case.
91 and 92UD - about a case of each. The 91UD had a ton of rough cuts. Boxes were 10 bucks.
    87D - about a 10 boxes - 10 bucks a box.

The only reason I still have it? If we have a freeze and no power - it's gonna be used for heat.

Mine was 2001 Topps Baseball. I had just gotten back into the hobby late 2000 and I loved all the Through the Years reprints, the Golden Anniversary inserts and the Combos inserts as well. The Ripken / Gehrig Combos card "Ironmen" was my favorite in the set. I actually pulled one of the elusive Bo Jackson / Deion Sanders dual Bat cards. If I recall correctly, they were seeded 1 per 30,000+ packs is Series 2!

If you haven't seen it, it looks like this. I believe I pulled in $200 on it back then.

How much did ya save Dan?

I was in college at the time and not very impressed with the design - but it grew on me. I gave what I bought to my brother.

I remember doing the same with the 71T's and in '73 I was talking about Garvey while watching a game and he runs back to his room, pulls out his RC and shows it to me - why? His name sounded familiar - and was wondering if I knew him - well on the back, it says he was from Tampa - so yes - I played ball with him - but on the other end of the bench - in another zip code! image
He offered me the card - and I told him to keep it - he was keeping them in a cigar box and was dinging the crap out of them - but back then - who cared.

It wasn't until 1980 that I realized how important it was to take care of ones cards.

  • 1988 Topps baseball, I was 11 at the time, and the collecting bug hit me, I remember spending every cent I could come across buying thise cards. 1989 and 1990 Topps baseball are close too. I'm just glad I didn't have much money back then!!!

Lee, let's trade. I can offer 1 of these hot rookie cards for any 5 Goudeys'. Or a bargain of all eight rookie's for 125 Goudeys'.

I opened up 25 cases (20 box per case) of 1990 score hockey.

    SidePocket,

I hate to admit that that was the set I opened the most packs from. I had 8 complete sets and 8 700-count boxes of extras. Too much money and passion at the time is the only explanation...

1994 Skybox USA Basketball. I opened 2 20 box cases trying to pull an autograph. Did not get any. Ended up buying each of the 8 autos one at a time.

92-93 Fleer Basketball Rack Pack Case. This was a 3 box case. These were the ones with the Team Leaders or LJ insert one per rack pack. I pulled 4 Jordan Team Leaders in the case. I sold all the team leader cards when the price went crazy on these back in the 90's.

Probably 1990 Fleer. My brother-in-law convinced my dad to buy 20 boxes of the stuff at about $13 a box when it first came out (a discount at the time). Being the punk kid that I was at the age of 14, I snuck out to the garrage and would get boxes to take back to my room and open. I probably opened 10 boxes worth of 90 Fleer.

The other 10 boxes are still at mom's house, so one of these days I might go for a rip-fest. image

Recently... I bought 2 rack cases of 1988 Donruss and ripped through them over the course of 2 months a year or so back.

I had a whole bunch of sets from '82 through the early '90s that I opened 5-10 boxes of, but I think the most I opened was 21 or 22 boxes of '94 Classic Hockey Draft (these were all from the blowout sale they did to Kay-Bee toys a year later where they added an extra autographed card as a boxtopper).

I think I opened a trazillion boxes of 1993 Upper Deck, when they had the boxes at K-Mart/Wal-Mart/Target in the mid to late 90's.

    I just gave away 10,000 1993 UDs.

    Money well spent.

  • 1968 topps baseball. I spent the better part of the spring and summer buying rak paks from the Thrifty Drug store in West Covina, Ca. To this day I still remember walking down the isle and seeing a whole section of isle full of hanging rak paks. I rummaged through them looking for any Dodgers on top or back. Found one with Sutton on top. I remember picking out a rak with Seaver on top. I didn't know who he was but I liked the look of that yellow trophy on the card!! On any given day I would be sitting outside against the wall of the store with a mouth full of gum sorting the cards by team. I would always throw the checklists and wrappers in the trash. Favorite players were Brooks Robinson and Bob Gibson.
