Classic toner in hand. What do you think? :)

Here she is. Tricky trying to capture the actual tone which has a bluish sheen on the upper part of the obverse. What do you think? Am I in? image

Edited: Okay, I can see a lack of humor so I'll skip it. Couple of years and I'll be in either way. image

Mark, I had a slightly different thought that I can't post through the censors image

I just can't get into it, a thousand points of light and all that. So what about the toner? image

Looks like a nice coin. Decent photo. A little fuzzy along the right part of it. Probably tilted a little in relation to the camera.

  • Wow, is that really a 66? I like it, but there's alot of face and neck action.
    Either way, nice coin Griv.

Are you sure the slab insert didn't end in a 4, as maybe it's just me but that obverse has too much chatter to be a contender for that grade image

I can't say. I think it's cleaner then it looks and I see the angle problem that makes the top a little fuzzy. I really like the toning and after the recently revisited threads on coin doctoring I am not sure where this coin sits. Do I have to remind folks that my oldest coin was a 1945 that I bought last week. Before that, 1982 comm halves.

I like many modern collectors would be more inclined to look at the classic coins if dealers and collectors didn't treat us like the idiots I'm sure we appear. No one cleans a modern eagle, actually few if any actually touch one. To do so is to doom that poor soul to "bullion". image

I have had many say that so many billion Morgans were minted that based on where we are today that they are little more than bullion except, except. This MS66 doesn't seem like a melt coin but maybe just because of the toning but who in their right mind could actually melt or send coins to melt??? It's a little unnerving to buy these ancient coins when I can only grade 67 on up. These others look like scape. I would have graded this Morgan at MS64 based on my Sac/Pres grading so there is zero chance I would submit a regrade this one. The toning is nice but not even close to some of the member coins I've seen.

Am I crazy? Whoa, don't answer that. Let's talk about this coin, or any coin for that matter.imageimageimage

Yes, I would say that your in.image

That is a great looking Morgan Dollar with modest yet attractive toning. Congrats!

I didn't grade it so I can't say. I'm absolutely sure it's not a 70 as most of my coins tend to be. I would also guess not a 67/68 as it seems like a little too much bloodshed on this one. MS66? I would probably say YES on this one. It would be nice to hear why this is NOT a 66, or whatever. Anyone for 67????

Griv, Could you post a large image of the reverse?

Maybe etexmike would be kind enough to post a 800dpi sized image of one of his MS66 Morgan's... as then you could see the day and night difference.

Griv, that really is attractive and the larger pic shows the toning quite well.

As far as the comments on the 66 grade I can see where they are coming from but it still looks better than a 65.
  • GrivGriv Posts: 2,804
Very sweet! That's got quite the rainbow and the colors are brilliant. I can see myself in trouble over these. Something about them is really appealing and I've seen so many here that are just awesome.

That 66 sure makes mine look more like a 65 but maybe it's because your 66 should be a 67. image
  • broadstruck... that is a kickin' coin.... and SPECTACULAR imaging by MG.
