Nice looking coin with very few marks. I am not sure that NGC would designate the coin PL due to the "patches" of non reflective luster, especially on the obverse, but it may be the lighting.
PCGS did NOT designate the coin as prooflike, however the contrast is wonderful, lustrous and amazing pop for a $20 Lib.Mike Printz images of course. His pics are as good as anybodys in my opinion. Also very clean and PQ for a 64.
Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
I have to agree it's a great 64++ coin based on those clean surfaces. Nice pick up. Doesn't look any different than pics of $20's in 65 holders. The cheek is hard to pick up on this one, but if clean, you have a nice high end piece there.

Thanks Roadrunner.BTW,The cheek is very clean, and actually as nice or nicer than many i have seen in 65 holders.

I absolutely love it. The $20.00 is a majestic looking coin, but it is normally seen so beat up and abused with nicks, ticks, gouges and the like. The series doesn't have a middle ground. Either the coin is beautiful or it is beat to hell.
I don't guarantee too many things in life, but I guarantee that that coin will garner a sticker.

1904 Double Eagles are overwhelmingly the most common date in the Liberty series. The frequency of encountering a prooflike 1904 $20 among other coins of that date is relatively low. NGC has designated 481 $20’s as PL or DPL compared with 171412 non-PL, which represents 0.28% receiving the designation. The primary reason for the seemingly high number of PL 1904’s is due to the general abundance of that date. Keep in mind that many PL coins still reside in PCGS and early NGC holders.

Thanks. I have a few, though some are in lower tier TPG slabs. Actually one in a SEGS is more prooflike than another in a NGC holder. I suspect there are a lot more out there that are not included in the pop reports.
