Tax Refund is In! What to buy? Need suggestions...

Alright guys, just checked my online banking for the umpteenth day in a row and finally my tax refund was direct deposited!

$1263 image

As much as I'm tempted to just go blow it all on coins, I know better. Plenty of debt I need to work on paying down and this will
contribute to a big chunk of that. Car insurance is due in a couple weeks, etc.

But you still have to make yourself happy, right? SO, basically I'm going to tell myself I have $250-$300 limit for coins.

What should I buy in that range?

I'd like to finish up my UNC set of ASE's...but those are easy to grab at $20 bucks a piece whenever.

Buy a nice key date for yourself? If you want to spend it all?!

You could probably pick up a nice proof 1872 2 cent piece, or how about a 1955/55 Lincoln?

Ok. What do you have left after you fill the car's gas tank, buy groceries, shoes for the kids and wife, pay down the credit card debt (at 28% interest!!) and...well, I see, there's not much left. Go buy yourself a Twinkie....that's about all there is.

RWB - I hear ya! Except no wife and kids yet. My V8 Dakota does guzzle gas though, so I try not to drive too much. I was thinking a key date too, and if I don't see something I like in the $300 range, perhaps holding it and adding to it for a better key date in the future (if i actually find the patience to do so!)

A V8 Dakota --- well, your refund is what, 3 maybe 4 tanks of gas? OK, I’m exaggerating, and your $300 target seems prudent – esp since you can put the money aside for when a really “good deal” comes by. Maybe you should also buy a book about coins too?

I'd be buying a few flight lessons with that money image

Of course, I don't get the refund because I'm claimed as a dependent, and my parents don't get the refund because I'm too old image

I do metal roofs that offer a lifetime warranty. I might be able to do a couple of squares on your house. That would look incomplete, though.

How about the DogHouse ? image

well silver is down right now - so fill up with some bulk silver bars or 90% Walking Liberty halves. You can get the kennedy 64's cheaper tho, probably.

I would get out of debt....

If the economy completely tanks, those that have no debt will survive, those that have massive debt, may not be so lucky.

    My suggestions.

    1. Carry NO (nada, zilch) credit card debt.
    2. Pay off ALL debt. (if you can't pay cash, do you REALLY need it?)
    3. Have 6 months expenses saved and accessible.
    4. Stockpile 6-12 months basic food stuffs (Flour, sugar, rice, beans, basic can goods)

Think you can't do it? That's what I thought 20 years ago. Today we owe NOTHING, Nada, Zilch. Amazing how much further your money goes when you are not paying interest on a taco dinner you ate 5 years ago.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

Yup I believe it!! I did my own this year and remember reading that!

You know what else I love...I owed the state of Pennsylvania $12...sent in my check at the same time as I sent in my return to the Fed.

They cashed my check weeks ago and i JUST got the refund. Ain't Bureaucracy grand? image
