Best offers

So I had several in my inbox today. Most were offers of $20 for items with listing prices of $50, $60, and $80.
I just declined without offering a counter offer. I didn't think there was any reason to since we were so far apart.

Anyway I get this message tonight:
Hello; I rec'd your note. So you are not willing to negotiate on any of your prices. On some i offered 50% of your asking. Thought you would counter. I am trying to find some items that I can give to the foundation to sell at their fundraiser. When I pay for all of the shipping to me then I must pay for all of the shipping to them. That is the reason my prices are so low. They are for a charity not for myself. Thanks for considering the prices.

I responded to him that I didn't want to sell anything less than what I paid for it among other reasons. I guess I am just amazed that since he has to pay for items to be shipped to charity that I am supposed to practically give stuff away.

Thanks for letting me rant!

Bob.....

    I would always counter.

Lets say I put up a BIN for 100.00

    I get a 50.00 offer

I would counter at 80.00.......or whatever

    Countering never hurts!

Tell him you have no problem shipping directly to the charity!

That would save him a few dollars!

I will usually get a few "WHAT'S THE LOWEST PRICE YOU CAN DO?" type emails when I have a "best offer". I replied once with "what's the highest price you'll pay?" and got no responce. Once I really wanted to move an item, and gave a price. The guy then offered 60% of that "lowest price."

He was buying for a charity? FAT CHANCE! The things that some folks will do and say to save a few extra dollars! Very sad!!!

It's especially telling that he hasn't responded with legitimate offers. Oh well! It takes all kinds.
I too was very leary of his charity claim.

Reminds me of the guy who buys cards and asks for extras for his kids who like Pujols, Jeter and A-Rod. I am pretty sure he has been mentioned on here before.

    That is Grimey .

I really dislike that type of person .

I have never been good at bargaining , I ask the price if I can afford it, I pay it , I wouldn't be cought dead using my kid or a charity to get a couple of baseball cards .

Try to make someone feel sorry ?
That type of bottom feeding, carpet bagger disgusts me .

  • What gets me is the guy who bids low and then bids again 1 penny higher............i should have counter offered 1 cent more than my BIN......thanks for wasting my time . I never offer less than 50%. But thats just me........

If you're thinking of the guy in Pennsylvania who's also a dealer, Richard Simon posted a nice story about him just yesterday on net54. He didn't link to the story so I hope he isn't offended by me posting this.

It's scary how much crime there is these days related to stupid baseball cards. image

link to story, there's a link to the guy's feedback posted in the thread

Police in Montoursville, Pennsylvania are on the lookout for a man who attacked a local sports card shop owner and stole about 50 vintage cards after chasing him down inside his house.

The incident happened late Wednesday morning when a man walked into Robert Aderhold's home-based sports memorabilia business, posing as a customer and started chatting with the owner about some of his vintage baseball cards.

Ronald Aderhold, owner of the shop, said he thought the man in his early 20s was interested in buying some of the more valuable cards.

"And then all of sudden, he stands up and goes, 'Okay, this is a robbery'," Aderhold told the local ABC-TV affiliate, WNEP.

But that's when it got interesting---and terrifying for a guy just trying to earn a few bucks. After realizing it was no joke, Aderhold said he tried to escape.

"I ran out of the shop, into the house and he ran after me and tackled me and hit me over the head with the crowbar," Aderhold nold the station. "I'm lucky I'm not dead. He could have hit me a number of times. He only hit me once."

He said the robber told him to lay on the ground while he sifted through the cards and then fled.

Montoursville police told Sports Collectors Daily that Aderhold suffered a cut on his head. He ran for help but by the time the call was made and officers dispatched, the attacker was gone. Police say he may have left some fingerprints at the scene and they have had calls with tips on possible suspects after releasing a description of the man.

Among the stolen cards were a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle valued at approximately $8,000, as well as an essentially complete run of Mantle regular issue Topps cards from 1953 to 1969, a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan rookie card, 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie, 1951 Bowman Duke Snider, 1956 Topps Roberto Clemente and Ted Williams, 1957 Topps Willie Mays, 1958 Topps Aaron, 1962 Topps Clemente, 1966 Topps Mays, four Cal Ripken Junior rookie cards (regular issue and rookie/traded) and a 1984 Fleer Update Roger Clemens. Several less valuable cards were also stolen. The total value of the cards reported to police was $50,000.

"I hope they find him. I mean this guy needs to be brought to justice. For somebody to do something like this," Aderhold said.
