I just received a package from Los Angeles that took NINE days to get to Seattle - Unbelievable. The PO is usually much, much better. I've received packages in two days from LA. Can it be the tax return volume? Seems early for that. Maybe a lot of vacations once the holiday and post holiday rush is over.

We did a national mail count in February. The USPS counts every piece of mail for a specified time, and rural carriers get paid for the year based on how much mail there is.

I'm not saying there was any delay of any mail but we had almost no mail for those 2 weeks and amazingly there's been a ton of mail since the 2 week period ended.

Probably not related at all to your parcels getting there late image

I live in a development where there is one central mailbox with everyone's individual box, identified only by a number. Every now and then I'll get my next-door neighbor's mail, and my mail ends up at the other neighbor, and the pattern goes on like that. It's either a new deliveryperson, or the regular one is high. My money is on some sort of I.V. drug use going on.

The USPS has been very quick in my case. I sent payment to Cali from Ohio on the 10th and had the cards in hand yesterday (properly packaged). An item from MI. came a few days ago (I mailed payment to him as well on the 10th).

In other news I used paypal for an auction I won the same day (10th, palpal confirmed the 11th) and I haven't received it yet and it's from Virginia (the seller said the item would be sent early THIS week 5-6 days after payment received).

I always feel for anyone who's had something lost in the mail.

But my take? I wish other companies were as efficient as the PO.

I think I've had one letter lost in the last 35 yrs.

Sometimes mail is slow, sometimes packages don't make it as fast as I would like - but overall - I'm totally satisfied.

I can't count how many times a repair company or contractor says they're coming on such and such a day - neither arrive nor call to apologize.

  • I agree with Stone, the post office rarely lets me down and I wish everyone were as efficient. Back to the horror stories for minute though. I sent a package to CA valued at $400+ with signature confirmation. After about four weeks, the buyer emails me and asks what the status is. Uh oh. I check the tracking and it says it's still in Milwaukee after four weeks. I filed a report on USPS and went back and forth with them for about a week and all of sudden the tracking says that it was unclaimed in CA and is being returned to sender. So the tracking said it was in Milwaukee and it was sitting in CA unscanned the entire time and was now coming back to me. I guess it ends well because I got the box back, but I'll have to battle to try to get free shipping when I re-send it to him. I have no idea how it could make it all the way to CA without being scanned again, but I would have clearly lost the paypal dispute if he would have filed.

    My mail man rocks!

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • "My mail man rocks!"

    so does my mail-lady!

also, board member mailed me a package from mass on monday 3/17...
arrived in calif on wed 3/19.
    that's some pretty quick service
  • My mailman is terrific and I usually have no problems with cards getting here, but ...

A fellow board member mailed a card to me around the first of March and it still isn't here. He's only about 100 miles from me, so it should have been here in a couple of days. It's a PSA 9, so I'm really worried. image

I've worked for the Postal Service for the last 20 years and UPS 3 years before that, both in their processing centers. If you need to mail a parcel that is valuable or speed is of the utmost importance then UPS wins hands down. UPS cleans out their plant by morning and there is literally not a parcel left in the building. The Postal Service runs a different operation because they process all types of mail(Express down to Standard) and there is always mail on the workroom floor because the mail is constantly coming into the processing plant 24 hours a day 7 days a week so this can leave room for problems(delay of mail). I really don't want to get into detail.

For the most part we do a good job and our shipping rates for parcels are much lower than our competitors so that helps us also.

    Understatement!

I had to send my Bose system back to the factory for repair - UPS and FedEx wanted like 100 bucks - the PO did it for around 30$ with insurance.

When ya get to be my age - ya learn to be more patient and not sit by the mailbox when an ebay item is won. I don't contact a seller till 4 wks pass.

  • Weather recently has been playing a major roll in speed of mail. Remeber the Atlanta tornado, the Missouri flooding, the Arkansas tornado, the late season winter storm a couple of weeks ago that brought up to 10 inches of snow to Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
