Help with card shops in the Pacific Northwest

Hey guys.....I haven't posted here in a while, but it's good to be back, and working on my '08 Heritage set!

My wife wants to go to Forks, WA this summer (flying from Tulsa to Tacoma), and as a prerequisite, I need to know of any good card shops in Seattle, Vancouver BC, or Victoria BC areas before I start booking travel and lodging. One thing in particular that I'll be looking for will be 80's OPC Hockey commons and some miscellaneous hockey/basketball/baseball cards to complete sets from the 70's. Then maybe someplace that has some good hockey blowout jerseys and autos. Hockey is hard to come by in Oklahoma, so I have to make her trip worth it to me! Thanks for any advice or comments!

Good luck. Mill Creek Sports Cards is still open, I think. Just off I-5 north of Lynnwood (which is north of Seattle). Brown's Cooperstown is in the Freemont neighborhood of Seattle (address is about 43rd and Freemont Ave.). Problem is, even being so close to the Canadian boarder, hockey cards are hard to come by in Washington State. Don't know of any card shops in Bellingham, but you might want to take the ferry from Anacortes,WA to Victoria (about a one hour crossing) and give that a shot. Anacortes is about a two hour drive from Forks.

Every time I visit Seattle it always includes a stop at Brown's Cooperstown. Well stocked store Mr Brown is a really nice guy. Heard from another collector that the guy made his money and runs the store because he truly enjoys it. Prices trend a little high but twice he had 25-50% off sales on mid grade vintage stuff when I was there which put the prices right about the right level. I have found everything from PCL Zee Nut cards to T-206s to 1970s hockey cards. I rarely leave the store without dropping a C-Note or two and have never left empty handed.

I was in the Vancouver area two years ago and there are hardly any card shops left. If you are going that route try to attend one of the shows put on by Bossa Shows at the Croatian Centre in Vancouver in March and October. Lots of hockey and everything from great vintage to modern crap. Usually one or two hockey greats signing autographs for $20-30. Dale the promoter does a fine job and is a heckofa nice guy to boot as are most of the dealers there.
  • There's one in the Pike's Place Fish Market in Seattle.

Don't know much about the owner, as he sat and yammered on the phone the whole time I was there.

Never so much as said hello.

    Old beater vintage mostly.

I'm going to tell you straight up. There are none worth your time in the whole region. I'm serious about this. I look all the time as I live in the Tacoma area. The store in Pike Place Market-trust me don't even go in there. The guy is mentally ill or something. The region is beautiful though.

I concur with Mickey. Most have been cleaned out years ago of any good quality vintage cards. Unless things have changed within the last year or so.
  • Thanks for the input guys......no matter how dismal! If I go hunting, I'll just stick to looking north of the border for any hockey love.

I'll also add not to waste your time on the Pike's Place store. It's a joke on many levels.

Do check out Brown's Cooperstown though if you are in Seattle.
