How fast did it take you to look that up. There's no way you knew that.

Augie Galan was a switch hitter when he managed this feat in 1935... but he DID hit into a triple play that year. image

No, I didn't know that off the top of my head, but I can find stuff out pretty fast.

Note to self, when wondo has a contest you have a minimim of four minutes to come up with the answer.
On the other hand, when zep has a contest wait three weeks before opening the thread, nobody will have won yet and will be tired of guessing. image
    Just kidding, nice giveaway wondo.

Hey, I have had a few go two hours or more, but it is tough to find questions that cannot be googled!

  • I always miss out. Guess it doesn't matter though, didn't know the answer anyway.

Wondo, any giveaway no matter how short or long it lasts is a nice gesture. Just thought it was kind of funny how extreme the time frames can be.

Was I the only one thinking Steve Young, who was also the first left handed QB elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Lenn Sakata. Thanks for the prize. Please ignore all other answers, especially ones that may be correct.

I suspect digicat found the answer via Baseball Reference's Batting Season Finder. Here's the link:

    Batting Season Finder

If so, then digicat's answer is probably correct because double play numbers only go back to 1939.

Biggio did it once (think it was over 1 1/2 seasons) but he's a righty.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I totally LOVE Baseball-reference.com, but I didn't find it there.

I did a google search for:

150 games hit into double play

The first site that came up was about Augie Galan, and mentions Biggio and McAuliffe. Galan's a switch, Biggio's a righty, and McAuliffe is the only lefty.

+1 for me knowing Astros history without looking it up.

Thanks Wondo! I did a little research to find out who this guy is....

    B.J. Garbe

A strarcrossed prospect if there ever was one. Picked in the first round of the 1999 draft by the Twins and given a $2.75 mil bonus, Garbe entered pro baseball with damaging baggage (panic attacks, night-blindness) and never managing to get past AA ball. In 2004, the Twins finally gave up on him and traded him to the Mariners straight up for 41 year old catcher Pat Borders (who had 1 1/2 months left on his contract). BJ hung up the spikes and retired after the 2006 season.

He's holding Bobby Kielty's bat in the picture.

  • Ha, I have panic attacks!

I was big and slow in high school and college.

I hit into a lot of double plays.

There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in.

I would have guessed Cecil Fielder.

    Did Lawnmowerman win anything?

That's what makes it fun in my book. These guys who coulda, shoulda, woulda .. their stories are many times more interesting than the Mantles of our world. Can anyone say "Steve Dalkowski"?
