My new card storage....thought I would share.

This is being delivered tomorrow afternoon to my home. I was originally looking for a gun safe, and when I spoke with the guy at the sports shop, I has asked him if he had a gun safe with less rifle racks and more shelving. He went in the back and brought a catalog with this safe with all shelving. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Perfect for storing my Roop boxes. Im pretty excited. A little more peace of mind I guess.

Very nice, I have been looking for something like that myself.

    Nice!

Suggest drilling holes in the bottom, use large industrial flat washers, and bolt it to the floor. We saw what happened in Jacksonville the other day, you can never be too cautious!

1400* for 30 minutes is nice too image If a catastrophe happens, at least the cards should be ok.

    Nice buy!

Thanks guys! jimq, the fire resistant was my main concern, although I will take your advice on securing it to the floor. I went to a couple of security places in my area, and for a fire proof safe this size they were asking over $2,000.00. At my local gun store, I think I got a good deal for less than half the price.

Dont mind at all. I think it was a pretty good deal at $700.00.

just make sure you bolt it to the foundation or else that one could be carried out by one person on a dolly

That would be quite a task for one person....this baby weighs in at 467 pounds. But, I will still secure it to the floor. If somebody wants it bad enough, I guess they will find a way. My dog may persuade them from taking it out of the house.

But, doesn't it say interior temperature remains below 350 degrees -on the bottom right. The cards would be ruined in my opinion. Also, I would think the dolly thing would be very true. I would get some other professional opinions before you buy this item. Just my thoughts. Good Luck.

We installed my father in law's gun safe (for cards) with a u-haul dolly. They rent the kind with the tiedown strap for $10 a day. Bolting it down is important.

It is fire resistant Mickey, not fire proof. I have some of my collectibles in a like safe, and yes, if my house was a 4 alarm fire, and they decided to let it burn to the ground...it likely would not save all my cards. But if that ever happened, my cards would not be main concern.

Very nice. I picked up this fire/gun safe from Lowes for under $400 (excluding delivery charges, of course). I absolutely love it and keep all my expensive, graded cards in it along with just about anything else that is important or valuable. As you can see, it's virtually all shelving as the rifle racks can be taken out.

I had a few of those CD racks like the one in your photo and hated the thing. Every few weeks or months one would fall down scattering CD's everywhere.

Thats it in a nut shell!! Im just looking for something that will offer more protection than just the card board boxes they're in now.

Brian, I do remember that pic of your safe. What a deal at $400!!! Nice set up!

Trust me, I have one that weighs 700 pounds and when I moved a couple of years ago, two very thin Russian men unloaded an entire full sized moving van in 2 and a half hours of my house and one of the men, who weighed 140 pounds tops, strapped the safe on a heavy two wheeled dolly and walked with it for over 150 feet like it was a loaf of bread. The safe I bought was a very nice Liberty gun safe that is nearly twice as large as yours from a local Liberty safe dealer and hunting supply dealer for $900 cause it was the previous year model, but brand new(like the year model mattered to me.) It came with complete shelving as well, or I can always rearrange it to hold guns on one side or both.

I was a little concerned that getting it in the house would be a difficult task, but after reading some of the replies, I think I will be on easy street. Drew, those Liberty safes are very nice, I looked at those as well, but they were a little more than I wanted to spend. If you got one twice as big as mine for $900, you sure did get a deal.
  • drewsefdrewsef Posts: 1,894 ✭✭
yeah, I think it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time as even very similar models were $1500 or more, I wasn't trying to imply you didn't get a good deal, I think you did.

I got mine in my first house by just backing it up in a pickup to the front door(unfortunately couldn't get it to the backdoor to ensure further privacy while unloading), easing it down onto a half a dozen or so wooden rods (think like broom handles cut in half or so) and and manuevered it in and put it right where I wanted using that method of replacing the wooden rods as I moved forward and making turns and such till it was in place. After seeing that heavy duty dolly though with the straps, I would recommend that if possible.
  • Brian48 - Did yours come with the shelves or did you have to buy them afterwards? What is it rated for temp-wise?

I think $700 is worth the peace of mind.

    Nice pick up image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
