I broke out my old Sport Americana-Beckett yearly guide from '82 and the one from a few years later when they split off the Canadian sets into a seperate general memorabilia guide, thinking that one or both of them had the alternate poses asterisked (as they did the different images from the Burger King sets of the era.) While they had asterisks marked for cards from the the later sets that featured the "traded" line and the new team's name, they merely mentioned that the '77 set featured a lot of new photos and left it at that.
I'm surprised that this info isn't available somehwere online.

I think half of the Expo and Blue Jay pose variations were just to celebrate the fact that the players grew new moustaches.
I think the OPC Rico Carty is the original photo they airbrushed the Blue Jays logo onto for the Topps card, because Rico was selected from the Indians in the expansion draft, but the Blue Jays traded him back to the Tribe a month later for John Lowenstein and Rick Cerone.
I'm really glad that they used a legitimate photo for Tony Perez and I really regret that Andre Dawson didn't get his own solo card.
