When did PSA start giving half grades?

I've been seeing these lately, PSA 8.5's etc. When did this begin? Personally, I don't like it.

It started a month or two ago. When the initial announcement came out, it was a huge deal on these boards. Most were not in favor of it.

Thanks Don. I would have to agree with those that weren't in favor of it. I like the good old fashion 8's, 9's and 10's image

I deeply apologize to all of you for being in Iraq for the better part of the past three years. I'm sorry that I was unable to keep up with the day to day happenings in the hobby world. I feel sick to my stomach to think that I was serving my country when I could have easily had my ass planted in front of my computer glued to Ebay 24/7. I hope you all can forgive me.

This is the first and the last time I will waste my time responding to an assinine remark...on this thread or any other. As for the completely thoughtless, tasteless remarks here from a few members, all I can say is seriously, grow the hell up.

To Don, thanks for your actual explanation.

Don't worry about those types of guys, they always have something stupid to say, but there are more good people on these boards than not, so don't let the few bad apples ruin it for you.

Welcome back home, thank you very much for your service and good luck with your collection!

  • Welcome back and thank you!!!!

In the sarcastic's defense, most of the people were just making harmless sarcastic jokes, and had no idea you were serving in Iraq. I'm sure if they knew that, they would not have made the jokes. There's alot of that stuff (joking around) on these boards, but also alot of useful info as well.

Here's an article on the half grade announcement by PSA.

It was the major topic of the century! Some were so upset, they took their sets off the registry.

Me? It's just worth getting crazy over.

I see exactly what your saying, and your right, there is a lot of useful information and so on. But, I think its kinda hard to take those kind of "jokes" when you just finished serving 3 years in Iraq, so I don't blame him one bit!

In fairness and deference to a newcomer - it's hard to really know someone is just messin' with ya.

I'm gonna say this only once.

This is directed at only a few. People used to show a lot more respect for newcomers and people with something to say than I see now.

Harmless sarcasm is hard to "read" on a printed chat board - especially for a newcomer.

I will second what Mike said. Pete14Rose I welcomed you last week to the forum, I think it was
in either my thread or yours regarding a jersey. Welcome aboard again.

And yes the guys that did chide you Coho and Ironman are actually very decent
    fellows.

As for the .5 grading I'm not sure exactly where i stand on it as I would like to see how it plays out more first.

    Thanks for your service!

Not when one is a necomer - we pick on people we know - let's be fair and sincere about this.

If one were to be sarcastic with a stranger, ya might get your face slapped.

The banter we have here for friends is a totally different thing that went on here today. We owe each other respect first - irony is for people who know each other better.

    Well said.

Just to clear up one simple thing. I can take a joke with the best of them. Joking and a lack of respect are two different things. Once others get to know me better, vice verse, I love to joke. What I don't like are disrespectful remarks that are meant to imply that I am clueless because I happened to have asked a simple question, that someone thought I should have already known the answer to. This is a non-negotiable subject to me. I don't blatantly disrespect anyone, and I certainly don't expect it in return. I'm simply here to enjoy the hobby. I don't enjoy drama. Trust me, I don't think any less of the members here as a whole. It would take a lot more than a handful of knuckleheads to deter me from wanting to chat about the hobby I love. image

Back to the topic - I must be a bit old school, I just can't seem to look at the half graded slabs the same way I look at a solid grade. I agree that it's not enough to get all worked up about. Especially since I don't grade, I only buy graded. So I'll just continue to buy cards that were graded before this change was put into place.

Pete14Rose, first off thanks for your service and I am glad you have safely returned home! I think the sarcasm, pettiness and elite attitude have driven some away from this board. I am all for having fun, but it is hard to understand people's intentions and sense of humor through a computer screen.

First off, I sincerely and truly appreciate your service in Iraq.

    Thank you.

Having said that, I don't think there was any intent to be disrespectful.

You are going to have some "tasteless" comments in a lot of threads, it's a part of these boards. Some are appropriate while some aren't. While I encourage you to contribute being here, you need to accept what this place is and grow some thicker skin. If you are looking for a perfect forum that only discusses card board, has no hijacks, and everyone gets along 24/7, I'm sorry to say but this place isn't for you.

I strongly suggest you use the search feature and do some research on topics that interest you. Willing to bet any question you have had been discussed many times over. This will give you a feel for the place and more importantly, a feel for the community.

Again, welcome and thank you for your service..

Not be continuing on a tangent, but were you drafted?

I assume you had a choice to go fight for our country, and I respect that choice...just dont point the finger at others that it was our fault you were there instead of on ebay 24/7, because that too would have been a choice. This board has had many people coming on here just trying to start trouble over many issues, please dont take it personally.

They decided to change the slabs in order to keep track when cards were submitted, which ones have already had bumps, etc.

Thanks for your service. Viva La Surge!!!

The folks here are very smart about cards and other collectibles.
They are always glad to be of help to new folks. After you have
been around awhile, you will usually know when folks are just
    spoofing.

SOMETIMES there are spirited/vicious fights here. The wisecracks
you got were not in that category. The written word is always
    more harsh than spoken words.

IF you want to know more about the .5 controversy, there are
MANY threads you can search. The consensus was about 60/40
    AGAINST the change.
