Why So Many '71 Topps Sets For Sale?

Has anyone noticed that there have been several raw and graded 1971 Topps sets for sale on eBay lately? I wonder why they are coming out of the woodwork now? Any thoughts?

  • I was thinking the same thing. I went to a smaller toy/collectibles show this past weekend and I seen at least 3 complete 1971 sets and I don't know how many books full of commons of all series. There were a lot of 1966-1972 cards floating around at this show as well.

    People need money.

    Good for you.
  • I like the money thought. I think as the dollar weakens and gas goes to $4 people are selling off items to make them liquid. I watch the local paper pretty close and have seem many more items for sale in the last month.

Now might not be the best time to sell.

as for seeing so many of a specific set I think it just happens that maybe you were looking
for them? I mean surely you saw other sets as well?

I can't think that anything specific had driven 71 sets out into the market.

We all need money. Gas is killing us commuters. Also, tax season is approaching. I have found that is a frequent time for a lot of buyers.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • Supply and demand. more 71's than buyer's.

I'd be VERY interested in doing this set someday. When do you guys think would be the best time to start? That is, should I continue to wait for the price to go further down? I'd like to maybe get it for Christmas this year.

I'm not sure it works that way Estil.
