  • Isn't this just an advertisement for the upcoming sale. Is this auction really going to attract a serious bidder through eBay?

He wants to sell them all as one lot. If he can't, then he'll auction them individually.

That's what I hate about those listings. If I wanted to sign up for some auction, I'd have gone to the website. If I see a coin or coins on eBay, I want to be able to bid on it through eBay, instead of having to jump through more hoops. I think they need to quit doing this sort of thing. Every time I see that little "paddle" icon on the list pages on eBay, I move on.

That is crazy. Why 100k pounds and not some other crazy figure? Completely bizarre forum to be selling & wondering if he got lowballed by the big English players and so is trying to go the easy way??Won't work!

If it's an advertisement, it's his idea, not Superior's. The listing cost him $4.80, and for this ridiculous amount he gets all the attention he ever dreamed of. The one thing that doesn't stick, is that if Superior is going to auction them in May, the coins should have already been consigned, so he no longer has access to them, or they aren't going for sale, unless he works for Superior.

Rob, the big auction companies cannot ignore ebay, so they make a deal and offer ebay an extra 5% on the final price. Some bidders don't ever register with big companies, others don't have the right credentials, and finally, online bidding through an auction site ends a day earlier than ebay.It just costs 5% more.

Why 100K? I don't know the coins or their value, but it sounds like a collection with several duplicates. I've seen several Greek collections selling in one piece lately, and the total is usually a big, bigger than this one, round amount, if the deal is made privately. These are usually excellent deals, if we're talking about great collections, because the buyers and sellers fees are gone, let alone a possible discount. What usually happens is that a group of people put the money together and then they split the coins between them according to their plan.

But with this collection and because of so many duplicates, I don't see it happening.
