Anyone know anything of 90's basketball cards ?

I just bought someones collection of 90's Basketball , I'm really not into basketball , but the guy had them all in number order in binders and none of the cards have ever been touched /out of the sleeves so I am a sucker for neatness . . .

{2} sets of 89 NBA Hoops # 1 - 353 and the announcers
{1} set of 90 NBA Hoops #1 - 335
{1} set of 90 SKYBOX PROTOTYPE # 1 - 423
{1} set of 91 NBA Hoops #331 - 590 ? Missing series 1 ?
{1} set of 92 NBA Hoops # 1 - 490

It is my understanding that these are quite common, but if anyone knows if there are any good cards from these sets that might have been difficult to get or grade good , Lemme know , also am I missing the series 1 from the 91 Hoops ?

Thank you ,
Anthony

  • I'm sure many would agree that these cards are fairly common as the hobby is gutted with overproduced sets from the 1990's. However, that does not mean that these are not wonderful collectables.

From you photos it seems you have gotten these cards in binders and in complete order. As a collectable, I think their one penny price (as far as price guides go) is a bargain.

    Well done !

Yea, if these were in a box I probably would have passed on them , but it must have taken someone a lot of time to put them all in there in number order and I can appreciate that ,

Not sure about 1990 Skybox site, since it is an all prototype set, it might have some added value. The other sets are not worth more than $10 each I would venture to guess.

LOL, that is exactly what I paid for each Binder , 10 bucks !

He said he has a bunch of baseball and football , some of them are in big 5000 ct boxes and shoe boxes , some are in penny sleeves and some are in hard cases some are not a few auto cards and jersey /memorabilia cards ?

But I have to take them all , I can not pick and choose , but he only wants 150.00 for everything , so he's bringing em over , can't wait to see and I'll letcha's know
  • Yeah, the 90 Skybox (of which I collected pack by pack in 1990) isn't worth anything. Except you have the prototype set, which I don't know how much value that would add (I would assume some), but I think it's pretty cool to have that.

The secondary market for these cards in non-existant due to the massive over production of these sets. With that said they are actually real nicely designed cards and the Hoops cards which I have also I use for TTM signed auto's of players from that era who are still young men (40+) and don't seem to mind signing a request for a autograph.

I still like the 89 Hoops set, not the greatest photography, but like the design and the ton of info on the back.

In the '89 Hoops, you've got the David Robinson RC (#138), but it doesn't sell for much more than $10 in a PSA 9.

The Skybox prototype set is pretty cool - I don't think I've ever seen a complete set before. The Jordan is the most desireable card and sells for around $10-$15 raw. Not sure about the other singles.

The other sets are pretty common and probably wouldn't sell for much on eBay.

Forgot to mention that the Robinson RCs are frequently off center L/R so PSA 10s probably aren't that easy to come by (however, I haven't checked the pop report to verify).

Thanks guys, for all the get backs , I am still trying to find out what the heck the prototype is , are they all supposed to say prototype on them ?

I can tell you the cards on the opening sleeve say prototype , but the rest don't , also the Jordan card 41 that says prototype has a different pic than the card 41 Jordan without the prototype inside , but the Rodman Prototype is the same as the one inside , so I am a lil confused .

Dude just left about an hour ago and I didn't even notice that to ask .

He did leave me a hell of a lot of baseball and football though , a lot of 07 Goudey 06 and 07 Turkey Red Football and baseball , 07 and 06 Topps Chrome and regular F/B and Baseball {Tons of those }07 Allen and Ginter regular and Mini a lot of autos in hard cases and jersey/memorabilia cards and it don't look like he pulled out any stars because there are lots , I'd say a little bit of everything from 85 up , so far from what I dug out so far , some are protected but some are in boxes which leaves me with a lot of work sorting and putting them in protectors , But a buck fifty for everything I think is not too shabby , because I like modern shiney stuff and there is a lot of that crap , I saw a nice Matsuzaka Turkey Red Chrome Refractor I'm happy with right off the bat , even though they're #'d to 999, even though it's all crap , it's going to almost be like ripping I guess < Shrug >

    Anthony ,

The Skybox prototype set , is a 10 card set sent to dealers before the actual set was released to show off the design . If you have 10 players with the red stripe running diagnal on the left side you have the whole set . Jordan is the best card in the set , at one time fetching $50.00 on up now its around 10-12 . They are pretty cool cards, not found to often as a complete set . Looks like a nice bunch of cards for 150 .

    enjoy , .

looking for 1988 Fournier estrellas stickers , 1985 Prism Jewel stickers , anything Jesse Owens .

Thank you GeneralJim, then that is exactly what they are , the 11 Card prototypes , the ones you mentioned, plus the Skybox logo card , then you have the whole regular set , that is pretty cool .

I definitely know the guy gave me a good deal nothing really mind blowing yet but some I would have done it for just the Jersey's and Autos alone , he said he has more in Brooklyn and will bring em by ,

I found a Ron Guidry auto I was really happy to see , he was one of my favorite Pitchers so when I seen that I perked right up , no Real huge names though, quite a few rookie sigs and quite a few new cards so I'm wondering why he wanted to all the sudden sell but, I really don't ask too many questions , just how much
