If I remember correctly, they were issued in cellos - all five cards. I would not consider them scarce. The complete set of 5 is worth something like 12 bucks?

Can't remember how they were distributed tho. Don't know if it was a mail-in or packaged with the soap.

    I'll have to check.

edit: This 5-card set was issued by Topps for Zest Soap in 1978. Very unique, it differs from the regular Topps issue in that card backs are in English and Spanish. Included are Manny Mota, Ed Figueroa, Bert Campaneris, Joaquin Andujar and Willie Montanez. Further states that the set was targeted to the hispanic community. David Hornish's web says they were packaged "with" the soap.

That's why they have that fresh scent!

I think they're kinda cool. Maybe I'll drop the $25 bucks and get the set graded under the special.

The top/bottom centering is almost the same on all three of those.

    Three psa 8's
    one psa 9
I bought 3 sealed sets and took the best for grading.

I had 10 unopened packs and almost all of the packs had cards with dinged corners from the tight wrapping. I won't even get into the centering issues!!

    Good luck with your subs

btw, all 4 PSA 8's were mine--- i sold 1 of them and have 3 left. There is also 1 PSA 10 out there. None of the other 4 cards from the set have been graded.

    24 1 15204575 MINT 9 1978 TOPPS ZEST SOAP 2 BERT CAMPANERIS Card US

I'm a little surprised that they gave them all 9's, but I'm not going to complain.

With the Mota psa 8 that I got from Carew29, I now have a complete set.

Judging by the smells found at card shows, I'm willing to guess that not too many collectors and dealers have heard of this set. image

I would like to know why Topps was aiming a soap related promotion at the Hispanic community.

Not sure but I think these packs were originally handed out at state prisons across the country.

The packs were placed on all the bathroom floors in the hopes of giving the inmates another form of enjoyment to pass the time. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Actually, Proctor & Gamble (P&G) targeted Zest Soap towards Latin American men because of its unique pH formula for Dry Skin.

Looking for an incentive to get Latino men to try Zest, P&G coupled with Topps to produce the Zest Baseball Card Set.

The Latin American women already had Camay Soap and the Latin American children had Ivory Soap.
