It's funny, although my Krause is an edition old, this coin in VG is $7 with a mintage of only 150k, while the Canadian 1899 50-cent in VG is $100 - true it is only 50k mintage, but still.
Even a Newfoundland 50cent with same mintage, similar year (1881 or even 1885) with mintage of 50k and 40k book vg around $20.
Is newfoundland coins Canada's red-headed step-child or something?

Newfoundland 50c coins are dang cheap considering the mintages.

I noticed that, too. And not just the 50c pieces, either.
Sadly, I'm at work and cannot view Photobucket pix on this server, so I'll have to check out your Newfie from home another time.
