<< <i> I'm not familiar with the ancients - is this a copy? >>
Not an ancient coin, but a very significant late-medieval one and one of the earliest-dated issues out there: 1486.
Amazing coins. And a bad fake, yes.
Sadly, Bulgaria, like China, is one location that automatically raises a red flag by its mere mention.
I had the privilege to examine a real coin of that type in a museum, once, and it impressed me more than any of the stellar US rarities in the museum. I staggered out of the exhibit hall with a bad case of sensory overload, but the coins that grabbed me the hardest there were the octagonal $50 USA Pan-Pac gold commem and that 1486 guldiner.

This is too significant of a coin to just pass off as a copy.
