If you could only keep one item from your collection, what would it be?

Hopefully none of us will ever have to face this choice, but if you could keep only one item in your collection, what would it be? Here's mine, a signed photo of me and The Greatest from the early 90's.

Once again, nice photo - that Ali photo is just too cool to have. My favorite is probably this Maris.....I made a very amateur card for it and sent it to psa/dna and have never been able to part with it even though my original intention was to sell it. I just like it....can't really say why beyond the fact that it is a really clean Maris autograph.

That question comes up from time to time and I still don't have anything.

There's no 'focal point' to my collection - no holy grail - no super high ticket item.

    Now - if I ever get a T3 Cobb in a 5? Then we'll talk.

    Good thread.

Cool pic with Ali - if he ever came to SA and was signing? I would definitely get the main Lobby Card from his movie "The Greatest" signed by him.

I do have a Glove and book signed by him - tho not sure if they're real? Bought them years ago.

Definitely this....since this picture was taken, I've added Phil Mickelson and Jack Nicklaus to it. It's actually in the mail right now (biting fingers because I'm so nervous). I sent it Express Mail with Signature Confirmation to Calvin Peete this week (USPS says it was signed for by C. Peete). Praying to g-d that he signs it...because if he does, I'll only need 1990 winner Jodie Mudd to have every winner.

    Vitoco1972,

That's awesome, I love it when people take chances through the mail. I hope you get rewarded for it!! I take some good natured heat sometimes for stuff I send through mail taking chances, but so far, I've never been burned. Nice flag BTW,

    Mike

    AirJoeDan,

    Sweet Maris custom card!

    Stone,
I'd love to get down to San Antonio myself and catch some good food.

Well, it's not for the faint of heart. Last year I lost a U.S. Open flag when I sent it to Orville Moody. It already had 21 Champions on it including Trevino (getting really tough to find). Nearly broke my heart as I bought it when I flew out to Winged Foot for the Open. Got a bunch in person there (like Michael Campbell - who NEVER plays in the US). Basically I HAD to take a chance with the Players flag. It would drive me crazy if I had all but two sigs on it and Calvin Peete has been retired for years. Mr. Mudd is going to be extremely tough too as he quit the game in the mid-90's and has really fallen off the planet. I've been looking for a good address for him for years...joined several sites that sell addresses and sent test letters to each and none came back positive....TTM is TOUGH!!!!

I own a 1973 Cincinnati Reds whiskey decanter still sealed. It is a model of Johnny Bench's Glove with a cool decal of the Big Red Machine, and is very rare unopened. I had a opened one for years but last year I saw one on ebay and bought it reasonable and sold my opened one for what I paid for the sealed one. I am keeping it sealed until the Reds win the World Series again..........................sorry no scan but I can email a pic if interested. Mike

Do you have a picture? Isn't that the Havlicek team? They lost to Cincinnati a couple times in the Championship game, no? Did they win one in the 60's?
  • As much as I love my George Mikan cards, I gotta go with this card.

    I have the PSA Mint 9 1 OF 3

This is number 3 OF 3, not mine, and thats why I like mine so much, because I think its the best of the 3.

    hi mike,
The teams are Pittsburgh and Detroit.
The caption for the upper center picture of the playing field says......Cobb at bat, Crawford on deck and Jennings coaching. Three Hall of Famers all mentioned in the caption........if they only mentioned Wagner in the field.......
Thanks for checking my picture out.

As of right now , that would be my 1958 Team signed Ny Yankee baseball , but if I can wrestle my brothers Single signed 1927 Babe Ruth baseball from him that would be it .

He is not a big baseball fan , but he knows it is worth a decent amount of money . . . . I need to come up with a plan !

OSU won in 1960, lost to Cincinnati the next two years. When I regain the ability to post pictures I will. I am computer illiterate and need my daughter to help me. Havlicek & Jerry Lucas along with Bob Knight were on that team.
I won't say I hated U of C after they won, it was more severe than that. Years later my daughter says she found a good engineering school, yep, U of Cincinnati. When she graduated I sat in their arena and had to stare at their banners for those championships. Now that I am much older I don't get upset when the Buckeyes come in 2nd. I congratulate them for a fine season. Although it is sad to say I am getting used to coming in 2nd.
