Paypal Alternative - FREE $25+

Ok, I waited until the money hit my account before posting this. I'm going to do my best to make this not come across like a Nigerian email so here goes:

Revolution Money Exchange is a new way to send money for free between account holders. It is free to sign up, transfer money to and from your checking account, and transfer money to other users.

This service was started by former AOL chairman, Steve Case - Washington Post Article

The good news is that every new account setup before the end of March will be instantly credited with $25 that is yours to spend or withdraw. Paypal did the same thing when it started. There is also a $10 referral bonus so if you and your significant other both sign up, you can pocket $60 ($25 x 2 +$10 referral), this is what my wife and I did.

Check it out, and if so inclined, please PM me with your email address for a referral email before signing up.

You don 't have to have enter banking accounts for each account. You can enter banking info for just one account and transfer the money from other accounts to this one before withdrawing. This is what we did. Or you can not give them any banking info. and just request a check for a $2.50 fee.

One drawback is you do have to enter your SSN when setting up your account. This is just a the whole US banking standard stuff, but I know that makes some nervous. I withdrew $35 and left $25 in my account. The $35 hit my account today. It's pretty straight forward, just make sure you accept the $25.

An advantage it has over PayPal is that there are no transaction fees, but a huge disadvantage is you cannot use credit cards. Hopefully, this will get big enough to be a viable alternative to PayPal.

EBAY says it has not "been proven to be safe."

It's fine if you have your own site, though.

  • Of course eBay will say it's not safe since they own Paypal and they want to keep their monopoly...

I hope it works because competition of course is a good thing...good for everybody except PayPal, and ebay shareholders.
  • I like that they are a member of FDIC, which I believe is more than paypal can say. I hate paypal with a passion.

If it cannot be used on EBAY, it will fail.

googlecheckout is suffering the same fate.

Ebay reminds me of back in the early 90's record companies started making "super" cassettes when CD's were avail. Paypal already settled a class action suit back a couple years ago concerning holding sellers $$$ and not paying interest! Count me in. TRANSFAT EBAY SHOPATHOME BETAMAX PINNACLE good ideas gone bad. It would be nice if the people on this and other boards could find a common non-Paypal program like this (I have not tested yet, but I mean a program that is an alternative to Paypal) if only for items purchased through this board. Who wants to pay ridiculous fees!!!

    googlecheckout works great.

The one advertised in this thread might be fine, too.

Both could be used on the BST boards; neither on EBAY.

true, they don't work on eBay -- yet. They are both just a court decision away from being there.

That being said, there have been a lot of times I've paypaled guys on here cash + paypal fees for cards delivered. This could be something we could use here to transact business without the fees. I think it's a solid idea.

You can always open a paypal personal account and use that for board transactions...no fees to accept bank transfer, electronic check or paypal balance transfers. I use mine all the time for off ebay deals and pay no fees on these transactions.
  • If I have to give out my SSN count me out..
  • I have been using Paypal for a very long time and have never had a problem with them. They are also 2 for 2 with claims ruling in my favor. Whats there not to like , what a great convienience.

As to the SSN, I understand that completely. They're FDIC insured though so they're required to get it.

As for Paypal, I like them ok. I've had my account frozen twice and lost a claim where I was right once for over $500. I like the oversight of the feds a bit.

I think that board members that do a lot of Buying and Selling on the board should seriously consider this. It's got some real "big cheese" guys running it. Seems easy to use, and NO FEES!
Their using it as a "loss leader" for their credit card.

Or maybe they are just trying to build their user base before changing the rules... just like Paypal did. They used to give away "free money" and referrals... back when their motto was "always free". Always, apparently, is a relative term...
