Came across this this morning. If authentic that's the finest Dominican punch I've ever seen. Frank Gilboy outlines this style as used in Dominica from 1761 to 1765 on earlier dated Mexican pillar coinage of all denominations. The punches came in 4 varieties, and without better images for the punch itself, I can't tell which it might be (again, if it's authentic and not a counterfeit). The 4 styles as follows:
Type I: Curved heart shape with crude sides and a bevelled edge.
Type II: True heart shape with bevelled edge.
Type III: Pointed heart shape with patterned border (obviously not)
Type IV: blunt heart shape, almost triangular with a patterned border on both sides.
After some time to think about trying to snipe it quietly, the numismatist in me took over, and I alerted the seller to this possibility.

It's probably because I know little about such coins, but I tend to get suspicous when they look as good as this one - the "too good to be true"-look. I know a little about emergency coins from the Danish West Indies with different counterstamps - these are heavily falsified and as many as 95-97% are fakes. I wonder if other emergency issues from the Caribbean suffer from the same problem?
