Everyday there is a new Matte Proof Lincoln thread in this forum! What is the driving force behind this insane obsession? I would like to know, because I thought we had this insanity over Roosies just like the Mercateers once did, but it has since died out.
It can't be just the colors can it?
Its not just the price of them is it?
AND, the #1 set holder Stewart Blay, rarely if ever chimes in on the conversation!
What gives?
Later, Paul.

The 100 year anniversary of the Lincoln cent is approaching
1909VDB MPL 420 minted vs 1909S VDB MS coin 484,000, let the real "King" stand please
Short PCGS registry set, only 9 coins needed to participate
A few stunning toned and blazing red pieces exist with more people chasing them than available
Only 15K minted for the whole 9 coin series, some were spent, destroyed, few true gems remain.
1916 MPL has the most amazing detail of any Lincoln cent, only 1050 minted.
That's just a few of the reasons and now for the grand finale. Stay tuned to the upcoming Central States auction where Stewart Blay's 1914 PCGS PR68RD is going on the Heritage auction block April 16th. As the saying goes "all boats rise with the tide" If this coin brings the huge money that is expected this series will explode again to levels that make the current prices seem cheap. We will soon see.

Why is he selling it, and does he currently own the other one? There are 2 of these...

Brother, that's because we're not sure if he even exists or not. He is the King of Kings, the Supreme Being of MPL collectors. The one we all strive to reach.
What is the driving force behind this insane obsession?
Not "What", but "Who".

Ever thought about making a 1916 D Merc weekly list?. The most sought after of the series...everyone wants one ..

Is there a "D" on the back of that 16 Merc you just posted a pic of?
matte proof's to me are laced with intrique as they are a short lived us mint venture into giving collectors a fresh "turn of the century" proof approach rather then brilliant only.the masters at the mint too probably shared the same excitement some of us today still do.sadly though not much was recorded nor is information outstanding but to behold a matte lincoln, buff or gold eagle one knows just how special they are.
so why...why not? as something that brings enjoyment with excitement in ownership in this hobby is very pleasant to me and i thoroughly for one appreciate these threads as it's a common we share.
"we enjoy numismatics and find our lil niches in it at our pleasure"
so i also include the fact that you should of seen the enjoyment i found when my $25. purchase of a 1942 mercury unc arrived from the bay only to behold a darn close to cameo proof that pcgs saw no problem in assigning it pr65.the 36' satin lincoln i just received just has something about it that it doesn't matter to anyone else...i love it!!!!!!!!
of note is i reply to post's that are of my interest and matte proof's have it as early proof examples and how i wish a 1916 matte proof mercury, standing liberty or walker were something to chat about-they aren't
something tells me too that stewart speaks as he pleases and all i can say about stewart is "he sure does have some coins".
As a kid, I collected cents. Yes, I had a few coins in other denominations like the 1922 peace dollar my grandfather gave me, but I couldn't afford to collect Roosevelt dimes, much less Mercury dimes. So as I collected circulated wheats, I was always fascinated with the low mintage figures in my red book. Would I ever see one in person? Especially the VDB!
I count myself very lucky to own one of the finest proof VDB's out there, and I think it will truly be my favorite coin I will ever own.
I think many other collectors started like I did, and view the MPL's in the same way. You don't have that with any other series.
While he divertes our attention to the MPL's he slips some ringers into his "Big" Dime sets.
My question would be: where have they been all this time?
My response is: Keep it up. I am right behind you in support of Dimes.

Not trying to create a brew haw haw.
Every chance we get we need to mention/highlight the beauty of Mercuury and Roosevelt dimes.
You are an eager supporter of this and I am trying to reinforce your enthusiasim.
(If you are curious about my sets, then the starting point could be: The US Dimes Complete set {Engram Collection} I'm number seven and you eight. You can see my other sets from there).

Nice sets especially your #6 1948 Mint set.
OK well I recently bought this 1948-S MS66 Rattler!
Ends up that its the local coin shop here in my town and I told them if they ever got in any Roosies, to let me know...well I found this in their store.
