WARNING: For sellers using Paypal Shipping

Yesterday I posted up a concern with a package I was waiting on that I hadn't received yet on another site, I thought that this info would be good for all sellers here as well.

I bought a Patrick Roy OPC RC PSA 9 from a seller with great feedback 99.9% from the US, and has already left me positive feedback.
he used Paypal shipping to create a label on March 1, 2008. Also this was shipped Priority Shipping

I received the e-mail from Paypal saying this:

Your package will be shipped by PayPal Shipping with U.S. Postal Service
XXXX used PayPal Shipping with U.S. Postal Service to create a shipping label for your package.
Your shipment number is CJ282813551US. Please keep this number for your records.
For more information, go to the U.S. Postal Service website.

Label/Receipt Number: CJ28 2813 551U S
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on March 1, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Well lo and behold, the package arrived today.

Warning to sellers/shippers:
Be diligent, don't just print the label and deliver to the Post Office, INSIST that they scan the package into the system when you drop it off and don't let them just throw the package in their out bin without scanning it.

The package I received today, still shows as not having been received by the Post Office in the US, and it also came through customs, and was delivered without asking for signature, (which states required) was just dropped into my mail slot. Also does not show up on Canada Post website either as ever being scanned.

So there is no record of the package ever being accepted or delivered by either post office.

If I was a dishonest buyer, this would give me the opportunity to charge back, as never received.

Make sure you have those packages scanned, I get the feeling that many LOST IN THE MAIL, claims may have happened exactly this way.

As a seller, that has happened to me quite often.

    Good Luck "insisting."

MANY PO clerks are STILL firm in their position/belief that
they are not "obligated" to scan PP labels. This is a daily
battle with the lazy and arrogant welfare addicts that
    "work" behind the PO counters.

Several EBAY sellers offer red-labels that read "Please SCAN Me."
Those work about as well as NOTHING.

IF a clerk refuses to scan the PP labels, ask to talk to the PM.
I have never had a PM or a manager fail to inform a clerk that
the labels were to be scanned upon acceptance.

Even though I could save/make a small fortune using PP DCs,
I always pay the PO rate to assure that my labels are scanned.
That extra money is built into the price of my items.

This is all the more reason I use the local packages place. The PO (especially those little ones "on the side" in other stores) really sucks in this regard. image

My wife is one of those "lazy and arrogant welfare addicts" you speak of. She works from 5am to 615 pm 6 days a week. She sorts about 4000 pieces of mail to 8 routes daily. When she's done with that she waits on people at the counter, processes passport applications, delivers express packages, sorts mail to 550 PO boxes.

Scanning parcels into the system on arrival is not a required part of the USPS routine. Unless it is specifically asked for it is not normally done. My wife scans them in because we do a lot of online selling and she understands the need for online verification.

Parcels are frequently scanned when they arrive at distribution plants.

Parcels are scanned when they arrive at the final destination office.

Parcels are scanned as attempted or delivered when they arrive at the destination address.

I would respectfully ask that you STFU unless you know what you are talking about.

I've had the same thing happen with packages sent to Canada where I used regular shipping, except the records showed the package was accepted. However, that would make zero difference if the buyer chose to do a chargeback. This is why many US sellers will either not ship to Canada or will not accept paypal from Canadian residents. Your post office does not require its carriers to scan US packages (or get a signature) upon delivery. That's what I was told when I called the Canada Post to complain a few years ago.

Lately, the packages I've shipped with paypal shipping to US residents have shown that they were accepted/processed once they reached a distribution center. Often they're scanned at both distribution centers (mine and the buyer's).

As you well know from my MANY previous posts, I am VERY
    supportive of USPS workers.

MOST are excellent workers. MANY are totally useless.

If the shoe does NOT fit, don't wear it.

YOU can get your wife to shut up, but that kind of trash
talk cuts no ice witrh me.

  • I've shipped 100s of packages w/ Paypal shipping. Never 1 problem. Also never had any sort of mail or package lost by the USPS.. I'm just lucky, I guess...

I actually shipped my first package through paypal today. When I dropped it off at the PO, I asked the guy behind the counter to make sure it gets scanned. He told me that his supervisor told them that if a person drops them off to 'scan when they get a chance' to just put it in the bin. He said that they will only scan stuff that is dropped off if you stand there and wait while they do it and print a receipt.

I don't know what they do with stuff that is dropped into a mailbox or picked up on the route, but thats what they said about dropoffs.

Arrogant welfare addicts is very unfair and unnecessary. I'm also surprised to hear such trash talk coming from storm. The post office is no different from any other sector or job where you'll find both lazy and efficient workers.

I needed to return a camcorder to Amazon, and brought the package to a UPS store, with the preprinted label attached. I handed it to the clerk, who said a cheerful "thanks" and turned to walk away. I stopped her and asked for a drop-off scan receipt, at which point she seemed upset, but she did scan it and printed out the receipt. What a stark change in attitude, though.

Methinks she wanted to steal the package, as without a scan or receipt, there is no proof I dropped it off.

    Pretty sneaky.
  • I keep a box at one of those mail box places. They are under a USPS contract, but do not have the ability to scan anything there. None of my packages get scanned in front of me. I have not had a problem yet, however your post is very interesting. I did not know this had become a problem. I probably will have to keep doing things as I do now though. The PO is just to far away, and the line is alway long.
