Message Board Purchases vs eBay Purchases

I was just wondering....I have recently discovered these message boards and obviously they are a great place to buy/sell/trade vs eBay where you can buy/sell.

I wanted to start a thread on the advantages/disadvantages of each compared with the other to make sure I understand what I'm getting into....for example it appears that buyers can get better deals on the boards, I assume because sellers don't need to worry about the time and money involved with listing and selling their cards.

Any other thoughts?

  • I also think you get better deals on here because guys are helping each other out, they like seeing their cards go to guys who appreciate them as much as they do. There are many instances where guys have been looking for a certain card and a board member has sent it to them for free.
  • We also have a "Official membe feedback thread" that peopole post on so you can see who has successful transactions.

I also like to post the names of board members that I've had successful transactions with in my signature line. All these guys are top-notch.

And yes, you can get some deals on here too and pay no fees.

    Welcome aboard man.

Unlike EBAY the collectors on these boards by and large know what the market value is of the cards they have and would rather deal with other knowlegable collectors. Also we have a built in "Feedback" system in the event things go wrong with a transaction because we take it to the boards and opine between the parties involved in a dispute. The biggest factor is the trust issue and I personally have through the years found that most people that come on these boards are Inteligent/Professional hard working individuals mostly Family orientated who have a great deal of Passion for the hobby.

i have recently relized that i am buying/trading more from these boards then ebay lately (in the last 2 months). i guess i just get better deals here and i'm more focused here for what i should be buying ( i get what i need not what i see that looks good). i don't think i have bought off of ebay in a couple of months, i can spend my card money here easier then the bay.

I've found that completing sets can be accomplished much easier on these boards. If you need something you can usually work something out with someone else on the board in trade or by purchasing. It also eliminates all the fees associated with the auctions.

I love buying selling and trading on these boards. Instant gratification in most cases, not having to wait 5-7 days for the auction to end etc. In the last month or two I have done at least a dozen deals, mostly $100 or less, but two were very large. One was $1350, the other was around $4400 cash/trade, try to work that out on ebay. Everything has gone very smoothly on both sides and I hope that continues, it should, most guys here take this hobby pretty seriously.

BST Board + SCM Board = Safe

    EBAY = Not Always Safe

Most of my BST transactions have been on the coin side.

  • I'm glad to say that I've had nothing but great experiences with the guys on this board, both buying from and trading with them. I've had a few cards sent my way free, and I've tried my best to help when I could donate a few cards another collector's way. image

I have made a number of purchases on the boards here and everyone of them was a smooth, hassle free transaction. image

Most collectors on here are VERY trustworthy and the few transactions I've had have gone very smoothly, but let's not forget that there have also been a number of scammers and sharks on here, too, who have unfortunately ripped off other members, so the percentage those represent overall is probably no different from the percentage you'll encounter on ebay.

But seriously, Ive had many successful transactions with people on these boards. Never a bad experience. I'd hate to think that I've been lucky cuz there are lots of great people to do business with here.

The people I've dealt with for the last 4 yrs - tho mostly trading - I trust totally.

I would definitely offer my best stuff here first - and see if there's any interest.

I may consider a sealed vending case individual box sale in the future - I've got a run from 79-87 I believe.
