In short, Shelley Duncan was acting up.

Could the Rays (Yes the Rays) be getting in the Yankees heads? It will be fun to watch their matchups this year, all 19 or so!
  • A good, hard slide by Duncan taken to heart by a bunch of losers who need something to fire themselves up to win 65 games this year. Jonny Gomes with the cheapest shot to the back I've seen in a long time - that dude is nothing but a b*tch.

I'm glad to see the Yanks showing some fire and retaliating for some b.s. - it's been years. Joe Torre would too often sit back while our hitters were thrown at or other cheap shots taken, Girardi is quickly showing he won't put up with any nonsense.

Yeah it will, I'm predicting 16-3 vs. the Raybies!!

Possibly to be continued in the regular season from what I have heard..... the Rays play the Yankees in early April so something could happen then. image

Actually it was a good hard slide-but with his spikes up aiming at the second basemens groin!

Iwamaura is like 5'2" and he was crouching - Ducan couldn't help but hit the dude in the groin, he's lucky he didn't hit him in the face...image

You know, it never ceases to amaze me that people will say what a hustle player Pete Rose, or Dykstra, or whomever, was and this is precisely the type of thing they would do on a REGULAR basis. However, make is a no name Yankee and all of a sudden it's a capital crime. >>

Gimme a break, it clearly shows him with his spikes up at his midsection, there is no denying there is bad blood between the two teams. As far as Im concerned it has nothing to do with the fact it was a Yankee player, it has to do with it almost starting a bench clearer. If Kevin Youkilis did the same thing I would call it a cheap shot as well- no big deal its baseball and it happens. No slight on NY, it is what it is...

The Rays took a hard shot last week against a Yankee rookie catcher and broke his hand. The Yanks got a little payback. End of story.
  • When the Yankees were a fighting team back in the 70's (in their own house, and against the Red Sox), they
    did ok.

    Exactly.

It's a part of baseball; always has been, always will be.

Don't hate the team, hate the game.

  • As a Yankee fan, I would have to say it was definitely a spikes high slide that was not necessary. retaliation or not, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

As far as the Rays go this year, they could give any team a hard time if they can get the bullpen straightened out. They have given the Yankees and/or Red Sox a hard time a lot and certainly have a decent young offense that can produce. I could see them finishing ahead of the Orioles this year.

I always find it amusing when the player tries to claim he was just trying to make a play and that it wasn't intentional.

LOL... Girardi won't put up with any nonsense, huh? Well, I guess that means that jacka$$ Pay-Rod is going to be riding the pine an aweful lot of the time then, lol!

lol... yeah, reminds of another classic Gay-Rod moment... when he made that blatant, karate-chop-like attempt to knock the ball out vs. the RedSox a few years back. As if the act wasn't despicable enough, the idiot prodeded to try and act that that was just his normal arm swing motion while running. A truly pathetic moment for baseball, but a great one for Stray-Rod haters throughout the globe!

    Shelly boy suspended 3 games!!!

Connecticoin, lets not forget the Rays players that were suspended. It's not all Yanks wrong doing here.

I find it funny that Girardi complained about a clean baseball play by the Rays but doesn't have any problem with someone sliding spikes high which is obviously not a clean play. Spin it any way you want but it was a dirty play.

Melky and Shelly vs. Gomes.....which losses will play a bigger impact in those 3 games?

Also, can anyone say jerk (my other word was blockedimage)? Steinbrenner, taken from the website The tampa tribune:

<< <i>But the highlight of the morning has to be the quotes in the New York Post from New Yankees boss Hank Steinbrenner, who essentially said that since the Yankees help support the Rays through revenue-sharing, the Rays shouldn't play so rough against them. Seriously. "I don't want these teams in general to forget who subsidizes a lot of them, and it's the Yankees, the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets," he said. "I would prefer if teams want to target the Yankees that they at least start giving some of that revenue sharing and luxury tax money back. >>

So basically, spoiled kid Hank wants teams to roll over and die if their payroll isn't $100 mill? I'm surprised everyone on the 2003 Marlins isn't "missing". It'd be pretty funny to see Hank exist in the real world.

Keep going to town Red Sox fans...I'm kinda enjoying not being involved in this one!

LOL that statement is hilarious! Though the Stienbrenners are a bunch of windbags, they have a passion for winning and I support that. Yes, even if they pay millions.

This thread is humerous. We have one big idiot in a Mariner fan spewing out things that should probably get him banned. Then we have Red SOx fans all involved in this for one MAIN reason. The Sox have hit New York Yankee batters under Joe Torre by a 5 to 1 ratio. And they know it, AND THEY KNOW THOSE DAYS ARE OVER.

And again, Red Sox fans are going to "town" because they realize the days of beaning Yankee hitters on a regualr basis is OVER.
