    Oh, that painting! How awesome!

Funny how much the guy on the left resembles Charles II of England. Same period, I suppose, same fashions, but obviously French.

As to the Chinese coins, PM me a ballpark figure. I wouldn't be in the market except they're fully attributed, which I like. I could use some in inventory without the headaches of attribution.

    VERY cool SSP, Laurent!

  • I've been playing around with the world coins for awhile. Of all countries the one which gives me headaches are the Chinese.
My hats of to the person who becomes proficient understanding these coins.

That's why their being attributed is such a selling point.

Attirbution is tough if you don't read Chinese or have a general grasp of Chinese history. It can also be very hard to spot the obvious fakes if you can't detect differences in calligraphy. In much the same way that fake western coins have sloppy legends, fake "cash" coins can have some atrocious calligraphy that serves as a red flag to the collector. The thing that gets me is that some cash coins were pretty crude to begin with so making a convincing fake is not always that difficult.

Oops. Sorry about the last post. Pressed ENTER after typing the password and apparently the browser thought I meant to post an empty reply...

The book offer is very generous! Please be kind enough to sign me up (only once of course) for a chance to win.

I'm going to rummage around at home and see if I don't have a book or two that I can post as a give-a-way also. Very neat idea!

The problem with putting announcements in the "last post" is that it doesn't stay the last post for very long. image

    Congratulations, refrema!

BTW, Laurent (and whoever the buyer of the Chinese coins was)- when I was expressing an interest in them, I had somebody on my shoulder, so to speak. Sumnom is interested in some of those Southern Song Dynasty pieces, so if you would like to sell part of the hoard, shoot him a PM.
