I've never had one, and I'd like to get one to better display my cards on my registry sets.
Is THIS HP 5370C a decent one? I dont even know what I'm looking for as to what makes a scanner a "good" one... is is the dpi? Or speed? help?
I can get this for free from a buddy of mine, but I dont want it if it's garbage.
Thanks all.

I tried to google it and find out if it's a CCD scanner or not, but I can't find that info.
Good Luck

<< <i>along as it has a ccd (charged coupled device) scanning element it will scan slabs just fine. most blurry scans you see of slabs are from scanners with a plain scanning element thats not capable of scanning 3-d objects. >>
I just bought a scanner about 2 weeks ago so I know what your going through. I had zero knowledge of scanners...but this is what I learned through my experience.
I bought a 3 in 1 printer/scanner and it still produced blurry scans, so I packed it back in the box, and returned it the next day and bought one that was CCD, and it made a HUGE difference. I bought the Epson v2000. It was about 80 dolalrs and works great.
Definately make sure it has teh CCD!

Don't think you could ever go wrong with a Cannon, naturally the most DPI the clearer the images will appear
<< <i>I used to have a Cannon scanner that was great , I think it had a max of 4800dpi but when I switched PC's I couldn't find the software for the scanner , so I just bought another one , the one I use now is a Lexmark and I wish I had my cannon back, I wouldn't wish this thing on anyone . . . it's pure junk !

That's exactly what happen to me, except I went with HP instead of Lexmark... aaarrrg. I haven't given up on looking for my software for my Canon 4800, that scanner was unreal.

What I found out after the fact was I could have just went to the cannon web site and downloaded the software package for free !
So if you still have the Scanner , you can definitley still use it , just download the right software
Get a cheap epson, you won't be disappointed.
I bought mine several years ago at FRYS (got it for free with purchase), but i see they have them on ebay BIN for $25.
EPSON 1260.

But it's so much easier to let everyone else do his homework....
I got the HP Scanjet 5370C today, and found out it does NOT have that CCD technology, but it DOES take some pretty dang nice scans.
Here's a test I did with some Manny Rookies. Top row is with the top open and bottom row is with the top closed.
Looks decent if you ask me.
Anyhow, thanks again for all who helped! I officially have a scanner!
