Panda Proof Gold

Is there any market (besides bullion) for the 1986,1987, and 1988 Proof 5 pc Panda gold sets in original wooden boxes? Just accquired 1 of each. Thanks, Bill.

Probably (somewhere), but I dunno. Maybe not much over bullion. The wooden boxes sound like a plus.

  • APMEX had some of these for sale at around 10% over melt. I think many of these sets have been broken up. The one ounce proof gold pandas seem to have more collector interest than the smaller sizes which I believe is also true of the non-proof gold pandas.
  • When gold was $600 to $700 an ounce they had a bit more premium but now they are selling for melt or just over. The 1991 & 1992 sets sell for a significant premium. The 1992 set is selling for around $4000.

Do you not only have the inner wooden box but also the outer cardboard boxes and the COA's? Are the coins still double sealed in their outer soft plastic wrap or are they just in the hard air-tites? All these things make a small difference.

If you are interested in selling, I can probably get you a little more than listing on ebay would net you. PM me if interested.
