Big thanks to josemartins!

Jose PM-ed me a while back and offered me a free holey silver Portuguese coin.
People offer me free holeys, even silver ones, all the time. Nice of 'em.
However, since I've come pretty far with that collection, I often have to tell them that their gift might not make it onto the famous "Holey Coin Vest". After all, I have limited space on the vest, and some pretty nice stuff on there (even if you consider the fact it's all holed).
So I'm usually a bit noncommital and tell 'em I don't really need their gift, though it was thoughtful of them to offer. Often they send me the coin(s) anyway, and though many do not make the cut as being "Vest suitable", I still keep them to give to other folks who might wish to start a keychain or hat or bulletin board collection of holeys.
As it happens, there was no such underenthusiasm when I opened the mysterious package from Portugal. I had forgotten all about it, and when I saw the coin, I was tickled pink- this one is "Holey Coin Vest-suitable" ALL DAY LONG!

Free silver is nice, even when holed, but free 18th century silver is fantastic!
I have always liked this type, too. Had a lustrous AU unholed example, once.
Thank you, Jose!
This one goes on the Vest, for sure!

Like the holey 1687 Hildesheim 24-mariengroschen (2/3 thaler) piece that Udo gave me, it will be a sentimental favorite.
In hand, it looks even nicer, and has some nice "CircCam" contrast.

But if you want a free holey, PM your address, in case I don't have it in PM history.
I just got a beaut from Blackhawk today, completely out of the blue. It's a late-1800s French 5-centime piece that was drilled right through the center. Crazy thing is, it was drilled so perfectly and so neatly, that both he and I thought it was a mintmade hole at first, and that it might be some pattern or rare colonial issue! Then we realized it was drilled. Crazier still, it has Red-Brown AU-UNC details and was obviously a new coin when holed, for whatever reason I cannot fathom.
I can't really use center-holed pieces because they won't hang on my fishing swivels. If it were a tad smaller, I'd have used it for a button on the vest, but it won't go through the buttonholes. (What I have on there for buttons now were all "cheats" except one- because I didn't have enough center-holed button coins, I drilled some nasty old dug FE cents and Shield nickels that a detecting buddy had found, to make buttons. Those are the only ones I holed myself.)
You may have that new arrival if you like. It is a cool piece.
