Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 3-12

New record number for the fewest MPL’s listed since we began this list in September. Just 17! Is the party over? Not in my opinion. This is the sort of short list I envisioned when I first started this list. Just wait till summer comes and collecting and auctions dry up for a while.

Many of these coins have been in dealer inventories for some time now. With the prices having gone up since they were listed, few have made changes. Is it time to negotiate? Want to know how long a coin has been in inventory, just do a Matte Proof Lincoln search under this forum, and all the past MPL list will come up.

As always, if you know of one that is sold on the list or becomes available, just PM me so I can keep the list as accurate as possible. Till next week.

1915 at Northeast Numismatics and a 1913 and 1914 at Collectors Corner have been added. I am not sure if the 1914 at Penn gallery is the same as the one at collectors corner, only cheaper?

One month ago I sold a 1909 MPL cent graded PCGS PR62BN with decent toning that I would rate much nicer than this coin for $500??

1913 Lincoln matte proof 64 Collector coins- SOLD
1915 Lincoln matte proof 64 Collector coins-

I bought the 1913 today. I was the one that drove the price up on the 1909 Anacs pf62 on ebay. I can not believe that it went for 746.99. I wanted the coin bad and can not belive that the winner wanted it even worse. I would have lowered my bid (bidsniper) on sunday but my battery died in my laptop while we were out of town and i could not get on the net. I had a feeling all week that coin was going to sell way to high. I personally did not think it was that nice, but i need a lower grade 1909 for my collection.

Still need a nice lower graded 1909, 1910 and 1916 to finish my set if anyone has one for sale. Thanks, Mark

Welcome to the forum Mark, I think we all were a little surprised at the price of the 1909, but I belive it all has to do with sticker shock of lower graded MPLs everywhere. I belive the day of a $400 MPL are over.

    Welcome Mark

Theres sticker shock and then theres

    CROSSOVER SHOCK

Don't assume any MPL graded by another TPG will make it into a PCGS holder, just don't happen, believe me, I'm King of DNCs.

I'm King of DNCs. Now Just a second Mike, I think there are a lot of us here who would argue they are King! LOL

Thats true...I probably said that in haste being 2 of 3 for the week.

But my point was....Its worth spending a few extra bucks on a PCGS graded MPL (if thats what you want) rather than paying big bucks for another TPG and trying to cross it over and being disappointed.

I'm the one that ended up with dbmike's 1909 mpl by the way, and I have to say it is very nice, the pictures don't do the coin justice. Very cool toning and much better than a 62, a 64 in my opinion

Thanks for the advice but i do not plan on trying to cross them. They are not going into a registry set. ( i got caught up in that over at the other site with my Proof Liberty V-Nickels. I was number seven and calculated that it would take 40,000 more dollars to move up 4 spots with no hope of moving any higher. I sold to many nice coins to get some 2 points higher. I got caught up in buying the HOLDER and not the coin.) Most likely if and when i get done they will end up in anacs holders since 2 are already in them, 3 are raw (i plan on sending them in before the end of the month, as soon as the 1913 arrives) and 1 is in another holder. It took me about 5 years to figure out what i really liked to collect. I give you guys credit over here for sparking intrest in MPL's and moving the prices higher over at ebay. I have not noticed price increases as bad at other venues yet.(besides the 09 VDB's) I do think given the numbers of these proofs availible that they are way undervalued. I just assume they stay that way until i get finished. ( do you really ever get finished collecting in a series?) I enjoy looking at the pictures of the MPL's that you guys/gals post over here, and all the info that gets posted. Someone here asked if i had a 1909 VDB MPL, i do but i got bodybaged by ngc. I will try again, i know that it is legit. Thanks, Mark

    Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forums. Does your 09VDB matte have the 3 key diagnostics?

    Welcome MPLunatic

I agree, my pics were practice with a new camera. But I'm glad the 1909 found a good home.
