excerpt from my Phoenix ANA mini-report

"I had been dying to stop by and talk with Ira Goldberg at his table regarding the upcoming 'Millenia' auction they are hosting. I was disappointed that I couldn't attend his one hour talk on Coins that Made History (if i recall the title correctly), that coincided with the upcoming auction. I was pleased to find Ira at his table, and quickly introduced myself. He personally showed me several of the 'Millenia' coins that I was interested in; to say I was speechless is certainly an understatement! Ira spent 5 years finding only the best world coins money could buy for a wealthy client of their firm, and I feel confident in saying that their client must have been thrilled at the result. Many/most of these coins must have been off the market for years or decades. Their state of preservation was astounding, and the eye appeal and strike on all of the ones I viewed were the cream of the crop. I have my eye on two in particular that I'll bid on, and with any luck, they will be mine! (cue evil laugh.....) Ira was a real pleasure to meet and quite the gentleman; it is folks like him that make numismatics fun!"

anyone else make it by Goldberg's table, and take a look at these?

Doug

right up your alley buddy (and mine!). you gonna' bid against me?! image

a couple really choice Gothic Crowns, a PF66 '83 Crown with awesome toning, a very high grade young head Crown, and others. They have a 1822 Crown (George IV) that is MS66, but i showed it to two others standing there, and they agreed it was at least a 67. awesome! I know they have more Vicky stuff, but i can't remember it all.

I'd bet the 1822 is a tertio crown. No interest in Geo. IV from me.

Bid against you? image I fear that no amount of money I could scrounge up between now and then would even allow me to raise a paddle.

A proof 1883 crown in NGC PF66? image That should go easily over $10k for that POR. Not this cowboy, maybe wybrit though.image

"... a very high grade VYH crown" ??? imageimageimage If I were single I'd remortgage the house....cheap money $$$ nowadays, and the dollar is still plummeting. The wife just gives that glassy-eyed frown though. Ah well, you know what an olde sage once said, "It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission!!!" imageimageimage

Yup, tertio Crown. stunning strike, toning and eye appeal. The kind i've been looking for; although the price will likely have me speechless

sorry for the typo; i meant '93 Crown. again, terrific strike toning and eye appeal on this one.

an apology however is the least you can do; whether she accepts it or goes for the Beretta in the nightstand to scare my socks off is another story however! image

I do remember that they had more British gold (early 19th century stuff) in proof ultra cameo than i've ever seen in one place; really nice examples!
