Sotheby's and SCP To Sell "Black Betsy" Bat

What a great way for someone with really "DEEP" pockets to show their love of the game, would be to buy this, donate it to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and take the tax write-off.
Hopefully UD doesn't buy it to cut and make cards out of.

On April 24, 2008 Sotheby's and SCP Auctions will offer the only known "Shoeless" Joe Jackson signature model "Black Betsy" game-bat dating from his Major League Career. The bat, manufactured in the 1917-21 period, is attributed to the well known "H&B find" of the mid-1980s. Other significant bats from the collection include a Lou Gehrig Rookie-era model, and exemplary examples from Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Mickey Mantle, and many others from baseball's most prolific sluggers.

Additionally, a fine selection of property from the renowned collection of Dr. Richard Angrist is set to be offered, including more museum caliber game-bats such of Jimmie Foxx (1925-28 Rookie-Era) and Mickey Mantle's signed 1958 World Series bat.

Additional outstanding sale highlights include:
• Circa 1933 Lou Gehrig New York Yankees Road Jersey
• Ted Williams 1957 Boston Red Sox Cap
• Mickey Mantle's Own Team Signed 1953 Yankees Panoramic Photo
• Ed Lopat's 1951 New York Yankees Championship Ring
• Joe DiMaggio's 1936 New York Yankees Rookie Home Uniform
• Bob Gibson 1962 St. Louis Cardinals Road Jersey
• Stan Musial's 1941 St. Louis Cardinals Signed Rookie Contract
• President Gerald Ford's Set of Custom Golf Clubs, Golf Bag and Accessories
• Significant Collection of Lombardi-Era Green Bay Packers Rings and Awards From Scout Lew Anderson Incl. 1968 Green bay Packers Super Bowl II Ring
• Collection of New York Yankees World Series Ring (1978, 1996, 1999) From Former Yankee Stadium Organist Eddie Layton

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I've seen Richard Angrist collection , friggin insane !!

    He litterally has everything .

He's got the second most beautiful 32 Yankees team signed baseball , I see he's not getting rid of that , looks like he's getting rid of The Gehrig jersey though .
    :Edited to add:
That is going to be one hell of an auction !

I suppose in a way , he is part of the Staff ??

I know a guy upstate that has 6 NY Yankee World series rings , I was doing a job for him and he took them out to show me , he was dropping em on the floor and my heart was going into my throat !

He said his grandfather was a good friend of George Steinbrenner , but I was under the impression they only make them for the staff and for the players , maybe they made the guy an honorary staff member ??

They were really huge rings !!

Circa 1933 Lou Gehrig New York Yankees Road Jersey

I bet the starting bid is a million bucks for this jersey , can't wait to see what it goes for .

That has to be extremely rare and extremely desirable , they were not issued that many uniforms back in the day

Yep, they had it up several times with no bids. It started with something like a $600,000 bid and a $750,000 BIN.

Yea, well I guess when you start with such a high opening bid, it drives a lot of potential bidders away right off the bat , No pun intended .

You would think a bat like that would command a decent number without such an opening bid .
