Not ancient, but rather a Spanish colonial "cob" issue from somewhere circa the 16th or 17th centuries, I am guessing... IF it is a real coin at all. I'm only going by the vague outline of the cross, which is all there is to go on. It doesn't even really look that much like a small cob (half real piece?), but I suppose it could MAYBE be a really slick, worn out example.
There were a lot of fake cobs made for jewelry and tourist souvenirs. I have no way of determining what that is with it in the mount like that. Could be real, could be phony. Could be a small cob, could be just a random trinket with weird crosslike markings.
Might be a shipwreck coin- a lot ended up in jewelry.
PS- when I say "potential fake", I'm not suggesting it isn't real silver, and the mount looks like real gold. I just don't know if it is a real coin or not. Could be a fake cast in silver.
In any event, the mount's probably worth as much or more than the "coin" is.
