Las Vegas gives the odds for making the 2009 super bowl

Detroit and Atlanta near the bottom (big surprise!!) image

How have the Lions' off-season moves influenced how the rest of the nation feels about them? One place that still isn't high on Detroit's star power is Las Vegas.

Bodog Sportsbook has its NFL Super Bowl odds out, and they aren't too confident about Detroit's chances to do much damage this season.

The Lions have 65/1 odds to win the Super Bowl - quite a contrast from favorite New England's 10/3 odds.

If you think the Lions might replicate the Patriots' performance from a year ago and make it to the Super Bowl but come up short, you can get 22/1 odds on Detroit winning the NFC Championship - also one of the league's worst odds.

Is there silver lining for glass-half-full people out there? Well, six teams have worse odds than Detroit does, including Atlanta's league-worse 125/1 odds.

The New York Giants had similar odds to what Detroit faces this season when they won it all last year.

The full slate of odds is listed below:

Arizona Cardinals 50/1

Atlanta Falcons 125/1

Baltimore Ravens 50/1

Buffalo Bills 80/1

Carolina Panthers 55/1

Chicago Bears 30/1

Cincinnati Bengals 40/1

Cleveland Browns 28/1

Dallas Cowboys 8/1

Denver Broncos 40/1

Detroit Lions 65/1

Green Bay Packers 20/1

Houston Texans 60/1

Indianapolis Colts 7/1

Jacksonville Jaguars 14/1

Kansas City Chiefs 100/1

Miami Dolphins 80/1

Minnesota Vikings 30/1

New England Patriots 10/3

New Orleans Saints 25/1

New York Giants 14/1

New York Jets 70/1

Oakland Raiders 100/1

Philadelphia Eagles 22/1

Pittsburgh Steelers 25/1

San Diego Chargers 8/1

San Francisco 49ers 80/1

Seattle Seahawks 28/1

St.Louis Rams 65/1

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40/1

Tennessee Titans 35/1

Washington Redskins 35/1

  • The value play in there might be the Eagles at 22-1.

Don't know who is giving that number but the Mandalay Bay was at 40-1 and AFC Championship at 22-1.

    And staying somewhat on topic:

    Rockets at 30-1

'Stros at 50-1 and 20-1 for the NLCS

I hope you don't mind - there was a misprint on the odds board which I corrected. Thank you.

Cowboys at only 8 - 1? Could be the worst sucker bet in sports betting history.

Bucs at 40 - 1? Might as well be 40 billion to one...no chance to win anyway.
  • They must have figured these out before the Falcons put together a new team. They got rid of all their old, slack players and put together a new team of talent. My guess it that they'll win the division and make the playoffs. They won't make it to the Super Bowl, but winning the division is a start.

    Steelers at 25-1 looks enticing...
