66 Down--1955 Barbers Tea Ltd. Cinema & TV Stars Completed in PSA 8 or Better

My 66th set completion in PSA 8 and better represents my second one in non-sports--1955 Barbers Tea Ltd. Cinema & TV Stars. This little gem consists of just 25 cards and contains some of the best-known stars of the day including Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Grace Kelly and Lana Turner.

I started collecting non-sports sets last year and have many in various stages of completion. This one started in December 2007 with a win on ebay of 8 of the cards from David Nance. Non-sports dealer Steve Iunelli, who is a great source for vintage non-sports, offered me 15 of the cards in January and last week Louis DiCioccio(AKA Lou Dog) who is second on the registry offered me the two cards I needed including Marilyn Monroe. Later that week registry leader Jeff Rosen also offered me the Monroe in 9. Thank you guys--appreciate the cards and the help.

The set ranks 5th on the registry with an 8.98 set rating-- 2 psa 10s, 20 psa 9s, 1 psa 8.5 and 2 psa 8s. I may upgrade the 8s and 8.5 but other than that will let it rest.

Thanks for all the vintage non-sports guys finding me the cards--notably Jay Wolt, Steve Iunelli and Bill Bengen.

The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in PSA 8 or better

    Thanks Frank,

Got a bunch at 1-2 cards left but either the cards do not exist or are extraordinarily low pops.

  • Jim,
Speaking of the honorable Mr. Wolt. He had a smokin' deal on a non-sport set from the 60's that could turn into set 67.
Might want to check in to that one.
