Some questions on British 1795 PR 1/2d

I was digging through a bunch of stuff thats been in storage for several years and happened across a box of British I used to collect. Besides the Shillings and 1/2 Crowns I found my 1795 PR Restrike 1/2 Penny, I bought this in a CNG auction about 15-16 years ago. The questions are:
1. Sould I get it slabbed
2. Arny ideas on current value

The images are a very good representation of color, some yellow and very faint red toning. Thanks for any help you can offer.

No, you should jettison that foul offal from your collection immediately!... and send it to me. image

I would get it slabbed. Gorgeous piece! No clue on value. image

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll put together a group to send off for grading. Just have to figure out a value to put on it.

    Lovely coin.

Depends on where you were planning on selling it but if you were selling to the UK market then it wouldn't need to be slabbed. In fact some collectors prefer their coins unslabbed over here. The US market would no doubt prefer it slabbed.

I could hazard a guess to its value but I have posted your question over on my forum for a more experienced collector of proof and pattern coins to answer.

Could I use your pictures as it might help in valuing the coin better.

Certainly worthy of a slab if you feel the need to encapsulate it. Otherwise, worthy of a nice AirTite at the very least!

Is it too thick for a slab?

Thanks Husulo, feel free to use the pics.

And thanks for the offers guys, you must be feeling generous tonight to not make me pay shipping to get rid of it.image
I'm trying to figure out what else to send in with it to get it graded, just don't want to run the risk of me damaging it while I fondle it. Now that I have it back out of storage I can't figure what possessed me to put it away to begin with.

    I wouldn't think so, with it being a 1/2d.

I asked Rob from www.RPcoins.co.uk. about it for you. He says:

"It looks brass in which case it is P1055, but more importantly it appears to have the stop at the far left by SOHO blocked with wax. This means that it has had a wax impression taken of it in the past so that it can be illustrated in a catalogue and so hopefully will have a provenance. This was before the days of photographic illustrations. I will be a while, but hopefully will find it. I thought initially it was the ex Brand, Norweb and Selig piece from the obverse, but that has a slight edge knock by the date which isn't on this coin and also has a small spot under the armpit. Assuming it is brass, I'd be looking to pay between £500 & £600 in that grade."

Thanks Hussulo, I just found the original CNG tag, they have it listed as Peck 1048, R40, Coice Proof Uncirculated, red and yellow toning. I'll go over to your site and post the details.
