Sal Pal has another opinion of #4. Warning not for Favre gushers

If you think Brett Favre walks on water and get violently disturbed when others don't want to kiss his feet please move on and do not read this link. You were warned.

Can you handle the facts?

  • Yeah, that makes sense..... as long as football is a one man game.

To say any quarterback won this game or lost that game does not take into account the fact that at any one time, 21 other players are on the field too.

Pack D cost them that Eagles game. 3rd or 4th down and 20+ yards to go?

Finally, I'm glad someone said it.

When I think about the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Favre doesn't enter my top 5, and, at best, he squeaks into my top 10.

but with all that there isnt much mention of starr as the best qb...yet many want to say championships and post-season play are a big part in picking the best of all time. if so it might have to be starr.

but i will ask you this, if the game was on the line and play broke down and the qb had to do something on his own on the fly...i think you would have to take favre. thats why people loved to watch him play. yes he took a lot of risks, but many of those risks resulted in many plays other qb's would never have tried and therefore would never had made. is he the best of all time...thats always hard to judge in all sports and over all eras. is he one of the bests...sure...lets see he never missed a start in 275 games including playoffs and could still out perform many much younger in his last season.

ohh thanks for the memories...it was 4th and 26. and this year the d didnt help much either against the giants. they couldnt get off the field. as some might forget the pack did have the lead 17-13 with 5 mins left in the 3rd.

you could say a lot of the same things by looking at the end of a lot of peoples' careers in any sport. Mantle, ahem.

I think Bart gets the same thing that Bob Griese does, namely that people assume he was just handing the ball to Taylor and Hornung a lot, essentially an early version of a game manager.

The stats Sal brings to bear show that he was, in fact, a deadly accurate passer. He was on a tighter tether than Unitas (his major contemporary), but I think Johnny would have played it closer to the vest if he had a coach like Lombardi. Not because he would've been intimidated, but because he would have known that Vince's game plan would work. I'm not sure he had 100% coinfidence in Weeb, and it's well known that he despised Shula, so I think that led to him freebooting it a lot (with obviously great results.)

You switch those guy's places, or put either of them with a solid team anywhere else in the league, and they each still end up in Canton.
  • Farve was alot of fun to watch and was great for the fans and game. Top 10 QB's I don't think so. I group him with Marino.

They're No Roger Staubach thats for sure.

Aww people don't like stats, they like Personalities in their QB's. Favre was a good ole boy from the South, or at least he gave that impression. He was also a hard player on the field and didn't have that typical prissy QB attitude. He just keep on playing each year. I am sure that probably hurt his team and his stats. He had to have been playing with injuries other QB's would sit with, hence the 288 interceptions. His stats are more the fact of longevity than excellence each year.

However, doesn't Joe Namath always come up as an All-Time great??? Broadway Joe had 173 career TD passes and 220 picks. However, his RC is worth what a$2,500. Why? SP, etc, but he's also Joe Namath.

I think Favre is such a fan favorite, most people will think he was a top five QB because of the career totals and he did win a Super Bowl, Marino didn't.

Plus, how many players in any sport are as in good in the their five years as they are in the 1st five years/?? not many in the NFL.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • 4th Quarter/OT Come-back Wins NFL Record...

    1.) John Elway (47)
    2.) Brett Favre (40)

Like MM said, football is a team sport. Much like baseball is a team sport, yet the pitcher gets W/L credit, whether it is their fault or not. The stat above will give credit to Favre for the win vs. Seattle in OT at Lambeau on 4-Jan-2004, yet Al Harris is the one that actually Pick-6 Hasselbeck. As mentioned also, Favre will get the credit for the OT loss to PHI, but the defense couldn't hold on 4th and 26.

Anyone can make stats look like they want them to look, simply by picking and chosing what stats to look at. After 17 seasons, the fawning over Favre is a little deserved, as it would be for any great of the game.
