What's keeping this from a 9 holder? - UPDATE - HI-RES SCANS!

I know there's a lot of pics, but I wanted to show as best I can how nice this card is.

I can tell you that 99.9% of the "dots" in the photo are on the slab, not the card.

All opinions welcome. Thanks!

  • And the white "fuzz" in the photos (especially on the last photo) is camera glare. This is also not on the card.

It's way oversized and upside down?

It looks like there could be a slight dogear or crease on the top-right corner on the back.

Hey Steve, I assure you there are no creases, although I've never heard the term "dogear" What does that mean?

Here's the corner you've referenced, front and back.

    Yep,
That's the only thing I see. The top right corner on the back, or top left on the front may be suspect.

Don't get me wrong. That card is super sweet, and it should be at least an 8.5.

  • The real questions is, what's keeping it from an 8.5 holder?

This is the top left on front corner. What's wrong with it?

I agree fully. Fantastic card, very sweet.

Does look like a ding on the right corner. Very nice card, though. 9s are tough to come by for any issue, much less this one.

It doesn't show on the front. I just used "Front" to describe the position on the card.
If "A" is for Awesome, that card gets an A+

Better pics of the back right corner, it must have been the pics, there's no crease. This corner is in excellent shape.

    Eye-Appeal issue with T/B centering.

DogEar on pictured corner, at rear; looks like thumb-nail grip.

    Some AHs on card.

Storm, I'm sorry man, I'm new to all of this...

What's "thumb-nail grip" mean? And what's "AHs" mean?

"What's "thumb-nail grip" mean? And what's "AHs" mean?"

    ///////////////////////////////

The "thumb-nail like" imprint at the dog ear corner. Somebody
may have held the corner and made a nail-mark.

AH = A$$Hxxxs. In photography, those are the little white/black
    spots on a photo.

    Thanks for all your opinions.

Agree with the grade, too. The top right back corner may not be creased, but it is definitely "soft" for a PSA 9, IMHO.

with all those photos not sure what corner is which but I think it's the bottom left corner that may keep it from a 9. centering i believe is fine.

Like they said, that upper right corner on the back. Still great card.

I'm not used to the new grading scale yet, but that looks like an 8 to me.
  • Hey all,

I just got a scanner today, so now I can properly show the top right corner on the back, larger, and in hi-res...

Do you still think this is a "dog-ear"?? It looks like maybe a small bit of dirt, but it's 100% not creased at all...

I'm considering this for bumpage, but dont want to waste my time.

    Any opinions welcome.

    And thank you.

  • Very nice card but still looks like an 8 to me because of that corner.

    Nice new scanner thou )

It will never make a 9 holder but looks like a great candidate for an 8.5. Any amount of lifting or bending (that particular corner) will keep it out of a 9 holder 100% of the time. That card is a beauty nonetheless.
  • Thanks again for all the compliments on the card (and the scanner) gentlemen.

I might resub it for some .5 action.

    The 9 was a dream :-)

The back corner that some may think is a dog ear could very well be fiber.

49 Bowmans are printed on fiberous stock. almost like the fibres you see on a 100 bill.

what we see as a bend may very well be a fiber.

It that corner is crisp, I would guess that it's the t/b centering that's keeping it out of a higher grade slab.

    Just my opinion.
  • GREAT card.

Crack it out of that silly holder and enjoy it!

Wow, thanks a lot for all the compliments guys.

This is by far my nicest 49 Bow. I have a PSA 8 #118 Sam Mele card and it looks like trash by comparison.

I got 56/44 T/B centering. What did you get?
  • surface and edges keep it from a 9.
