Could This Be True??????

Last weekend at the Reading PA show, I was told by a national dealer from FL that a set registry member with a lot of sets was offered to get his sets reviewed (not regraded) by PSA for the 8.5 bump free of charge.

I can only think of one collector that might fit into this category. Can this be true? And if so, why doesn't PSA offer this incentive to most of the top tier set registry members?

Are they going to come to his house and do it?? I could not imagine time, materials and cost to ship them to PSA??

It is very likely true. They had 8.5 holders pictured on the cover of the SMR by the time the public was made aware of the change. I would imagine there were a couple of big-time participants that got this benefit. Jim, Marshall, Charles...probably a few others.

I suppose if we had millions tied up in PSA cards, we'd be offered the same courtesy. I don't, so I don't expect that.
  • Having talked to Joe personally, I do not believe that this is true. He was very flexible during our conversation and very fair. This is a business, free I doubt very seriously. Discounted absolutely
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

Jim has 22,000 PSA 8's so who knows what PSA would do to keep him happy...

I believe it was for free. PSA had to something for the big dogs so that all of us would buy in on having our cards reviewed for a fee. They probably had a grader fly out review the cards at their home and then take those that qualified back to PSA for grading.

Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases

I think you are referred to Jim who was given several thousand free reviews. Not a biggie in my opinion. All businesses give bones to their best customers.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't bother me either. The number of perks given to people in all walks of life is staggering. If you're the big dog, businesses trip over themselves to keep you, have their product in your hands, etc.

  • Sorry I didn't post sooner but I have been on the road.

I think also it is true, but if the purpose was to highlight collectors that had superior 8s in their collection, then why just the top people? I have 2 sets that are higer rated than several of these people but nobody is ringing my Bell.

In my business, I do give a little bit extra discount to big spenders, but not to the detriment of my regular $20-$50 customers. They are no dummies.

Just seems to me imho that the pricing structure for reviews and regrades rewards these big people at the small guys expense.

I often wonder: if you own a PSA collection of, say, 100,000 cards, and you personally submitted only about 1,000 of them, does that make you "one of PSA's core customers?" Or, does that make you a major customer of the many dealers from whom you purchased those cards?

In the case of the person I think we are talking about he has submitted more then 1% of his graded cards.

With that said, IMO, it should not matter if a person is the submitter or the end user.

PSA would not have graded the card if there were no end users.
