It is amazing how many sets you can create with the same nickels.

When are they going to require business strike 05-date coins in the basic sets?

And they forgot the most rarest variety of them all, at least to me anyway. image

That's now in a PCGS MS66 holder but not designated...........because they inadvertantly left it out of the CPG. image

I wonder sometimes if the owners of the Cherrypickers' Guide gives PCGS a commission for only using coins in their book. For instance, CONECA has a more complete listing of "Varieties" for some series then the Cherrypickers' Guide does so why doesn't PCGS use CONECA like they use some of the other numbering systems?

    Just wondering out loudimage

I won't qoute you but PCGS once asked me and several others here for the top 10 varieties to add to the registries. My response was, there are people out there who have written books on this matter. But at least , for now, they are referencing the experts IMO. I don't have an answer to a most interesting point you made.

    Well said!image

You think David Hall or Ron Guth would "pony up" and give this lady and her staff a raise for their preformance! I think most would agree that the Registry Department helps to make PCGS look goodimage

I like most of the Cherry Picker Varieties, but never thought they would add them all! Personally, I never thought PCGS would include 1941-D RPM#3 or 1964-D RPM#5. Why not include 1945-P RPM#1 through RPM#69? Along with all the others in the RPM Book. I like double dies, but adding 2 1956 minor quad and tripled die varieties? Oh well, just makes the hunt all that much fun and pay PCGS a bunch more doe! I know there is a push to get the 1953-D / Inverted D added. This variety is no different than the 1942-D / Hor D and 1946-D / Inverted D. I'll save a spot in my "Complete" collection no matter what PCGS does!
This should be interesting, eh? Happy hunting!

The 1964 SMS may be a stopper. I also see they included the die scratch bison coin. That is unfortunate as it is a joke of a variety.

TAClough, There is no doubt that BJ makes the registry set experience what it is. Hats off to her and
her crew!! BigDowgie, Have you ever looked at the ANACS pop report on the 46-S DDO? Might suprise
you. I was thinking there were a whole lot less than there are. Keep in mind while reading them, that when
they went to a new variety designation, they didn't combine them or delete them. You have to add up the lines that are "dbl die obv.***dd obv breen2706***dbl die obv. fs-101" Visited with Allan at the show today. Talking up a big get together at the July Baltimore show. Put it on your Calendar. Shag

    Hey there Shagnasty!
Wish I could have made Chattanooga. I see you didn't report finding one of those 46-S DDO! It's on my want list. I was surprised PCGS added so many new set combinations. Lots of free submissions go along with each one. Check out a couple of the new sets out there, recognize who's #1? I printed out the list for prosperity! Being on top just doesn't last very long with this nickel crowd! Hope to catch you soon.

  • I have been travelling and have only quickly checked the new varieties added. I think all of the Cherrypicker varieties were added except for a few later proof varieties.

I would also like to see the 53D/D and 64SMS added.

Overall these are positive changes in my opinion. A collector now has the option of basic, major or complete Jefferson sets - something for everyone.

    Frank,
Any word on your variety submissions? It will be interesting to see if the 54-D/S gets their approval. From your pictures, if yours is not this variety, nobody owns one! Or are you going to make us wait till you post to your sets? Looking forward to seeing how the complete variety sets develop!

No word yet on my variety submission. I would guess within the next two weeks. I would also imagine if history holds true there will be a big spike in variety prices now that they are "in" the registry.
