Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 3/5

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,829 ✭✭✭✭✭
Kind of quiet this past week. Not too many new coins and the total is still at 18. We will loose a couple Mattes listed here at the Baltimore auction this week. Good luck if you are bidding.

The price guide this week was not as bright green as the last several weeks. The primary increases were with the 1909 series and 1915 and 1916. But again, expect some increases after the Baltimore show.

As always, if you know of one that is sold on the list or becomes available, just PM me so I can keep the list as accurate as possible. Till next week.

I think the Anaconda 1915 is sold? Don't see it on their website or ebay anymore.

I am really starting to like these. Just wish I had some extra cash. image

This is a great tracking thread.

  • Incredible what a little hype and marketing will do. About a year or two ago, I was looking through the numerous boxes of Lincolns that I have in 2X2's. I came across some MPLs that I had bought years ago through Stack's. I sent them off to be graded and sold them for a few hundred bucks a piece.
I should have figured this would happen some day.

Brian, sorry about that 1915, it was there Yesterday on the Ebay store when I checked.

Jack: Given their scarcity, I think the MPL's are finally getting the credit they deserve. If you think this is something, wait to 2010. Just like the raw ones you had , a bunch are coming out due to the price increases, many will not slab, but over all, the pop numbers will go up a tad bit, but I do not think they will have any effect on the values, they will just keep going up. My prediction is that Winter FUN show of 2009, will take in both the national economy and the new Lincoln. Any mattes in that auction will tell us more about the future values. Stay tuned.

I had a conversation with a VP of Heritage. He said MPLS "were being promoted" on the internet. Maybe he meant here, I dont know.

This is one of the VERY few modern era coins that has extreme rarity while still being a regular issue. I know as a little kid looking at my 1960 Coin book I was fascinated by the super low mintages and very high prices. They were something that I was unable to collect until last year, and now that Ive completed the set (well no VDB yet) they are my most admired and treasured coins. Will I sell? Probably not, for many years. Given the short supply of these, if only 20% more collectors decide to hold these off the market, the supply will shrink considerably.

Raw coins....they are out there, but without getting them into a slab, their value is only in the eye of the beholder. Is it Cleaned? Is it REAL? Will it Slab? Even QDB urges buyers to only accept mpls which have been through the TPG system.

Lincolns are nice to collect, but to do the whole shebang....geez you'd need a steamer trunk to hold them all. The matties are a nice little subset that feature rarity, perfection of the design and are old enough that roll pickers will never inflate the pops.

I just wish more of the Registry sets would have high quality photos attached.....that P's me off to no end.

Ambro51, Sorry you do not like my cent pictures, but it’s the best my little digi camera and I can Do! LOL I must admit it would be awesome to have True View quality of theft sets people own here.

Just so you know, it takes 18 PCGS blue boxes in two safety deposit boxes at two different banks and couple under the bed to hold a complete set of Business, proof, and variety cents. But one forum member told me his cent collection consists of 4000 slabs, and he is still buying!

I have actually had conversation with two dealers when checking about a MPL for sale only to have them inform me that they were aware of my weekly list. Makes me wonder just who is watching and how it’s used.

Two new Mattes added from Ebay, a VERY nice looking ANACS 1911 63 R&B and a 62 R&B 1909..has a finger print. Both should be affordable..Maybe that 1911 could be crossed with an upgrade????

Hey, How were the mpl attendance at Phoenix?

I saw a total of 5 MPL's on the bourse floor. I purchased 3 of the 5. A dealer who I have not seen set up before had 4 of the 5 pieces available.
