Just found out about a Great Birthday Present!

Me and my dad were just hangin out, looking through my Heritage box and some other cards that he hasn't seen since they came in the mail. Then, he starts asking me about if I was happy with the few things I got for my birthday (heritage box and some shirts) and I said yeah, everything was nice. He then told me that the gifts weren't over, and dropped a couple of tickets to the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame induction dinner on the table and said happy birthday! For those of you that don't know, the Ted Williams Hitters HOF is located inside of the Trop over in St. Petersburg and they have tons of amazing stuff in there. Every year they induct a class of award winners and other honorees and there's a dinner on the field inside of Tropicana Field. The dinner is all you can eat and catered by Outback Steakhouse so that should be great! After the dinner, all of the honored players will get up and talk for a few minutes.

Here's the list of honorees:
Andre Dawson
Roberto Alomar
Rich "Goose" Gossage
Hideki Okajima
Johnathan Papelbon
Carlos Pena
George Steinbrenner

Autographs aren't guaranteed of those guys but apparently they are possible. There will be a formal autograph session of these players though:

Bryce Cox (Boston Red Sox)-prospect
Rich Gedman (Boston Red Sox) -not a great career, but 2nd in ROY and 2 time all star as well.
TJ Large (Boston Red Sox)-prospect
Ron LeFlore (Detroit Tigers)
Jesse Litsch (Toronto Blue Jays)
Josh Papelbon (Boston Red Sox)-prospect and younger brother of johnahtan
Ryan Patterson (Toronto Blue Jays) - prospect
Johnny Pesky (Boston Red Sox)
Mickey Rivers (New York Yankees)
Roy White (New York Yankees)

Obviously the guaranteed autograph session isn't amazing, although there are some gems in there like Pesky, Rivers, White, LeFlore, and even guys like Jesse Litsch who is actually a very solid pitcher and went 7-9 with a 3.8 era in his rookie season as a 22 year old. IF I could walk out of there with an auto from any of the honored guests, that'd just be gravy. I honestly can't wait to hear some of the stories Steinbrenner, Gossage, and Dawson all have. Oh yeah, did I mention that REGGIE JACKSON is going to be there as well?!

It's on TUESDAY March 18th, so that means me and my dad will be taking the day off of work and school. I think we're also going to take in a Rays vs. Phillies game in Clearwater before hand. Whatever the case is, I can't wait!!!!!!!

    Congrats Goot,

That sounds like fun. I wish my son was into baseball. He never has cared for it, he wouldn't know Babe Ruth from John Wayne, but he does like going to the games occasionally and just being a kid, eating nachos, hot dogs, and laughing. He's 10 and the joy of my life. He does like wrestling though, and I'm taking him to Wrestlemania in Florida in a few weeks. He's been talking about it since I got him the tickets for his birthday in December. We are going to have a guys only weekend and he and I are both excited. Have fun that day, I'm sure your dad will have as much fun as you will.

Good for you! Happy Birthday Goot!!!!!
  • Very awesome! Baseball related birthday gifts with dad are the best!
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.
  • thats pretty awesome, you should make time for Johnny Pesky if you get the chance to talk to him. Rich Gedman is a super nice guy; I've played softball with his brother Paul (Ive never seen a better softball player in my entire life) enjoy yourself!
