How do you buy packs "wholesale"?

I've thought about setting up at shows and starting a website to sell some cards. Hopefully I could make enough profit to support my own collecting. Does anyone know how you can buy directly from the manufacturers? I looked at the Topps website and couldn't find any information on buying at wholesale prices.

  • Most of the companies require an actual storefront in order to buy direct. Distributers like Dave and Adams can sell the product to you if you provide them a sales Tax ID number.

So basically I need a business license first.
  • where you find business license? How much cheaper Dave and Adams can sell? cheaper than eBay?
  • Get a tax ID and give Topps a call. It's easy.

And you can get a Tax ID for FREE.

they can usually beat most prices. I think it used to be if you wanted to buy direct from some companies they wanted to commit you to a line of product and would limit the amount you could get of the best products if you took less of the crap.

The owner of a store about 70 miles from me told me Upper Deck is that way. You have to order multiple cases of the low end stuff to get the chance to order the high end stuff, they also require a storefront on top of a sales tax ID. Many of the others also have a minimum purchase.

Not one of the big 3 will give you a direct account without a storefront. I've tried.

I don't remember the specifics of each company but it went something like this:

Sales Tax ID (easy to get, no big deal)
    Photo of storefront
Copy of a utility bill with business name on it
Copy of an ad for your store
A picture of some display/promotion/etc in your store
    References from other hobby distributors

Here is the application from Donruss, which explicitly asks for an existing store front.
    Auth Dealer Form
  • It used to be pretty easy to order direct from the companies. I had an account with Fleer, Score and Upper Deck at one time. I "borrowed" my uncles tax ID number (he owned indoor tennis courts) they didnt require anything but that back in the day. We're talking late 80's early 90's. Bought 5 cases of 1989 Upper Deck baseball....it was like hitting the lottery! image I'm sure its much harder these days, I did eventually get my own Tax ID number (at my home address) still have it.....

    good luck
