Why PSA over SGC- go back 13 years

Why about 13 years ago would people choose PSA over SGC when both were relatively new? They had an equal playing field in the beginning and PSA proved to be the better service is why. PSA's turnaround times in the earlier days were worse than they are now. I had a sub that cost me something like $15 per card for 3 months- my first Mantle submission and that was sent in through an authorized dealer at the time. The one thing that made PSA special was the accurate grading. I complain just like the next guy, but PSA has always been the better option for grading. I start to hear talk about SGC but I know the real deal with them. Answer this- How many post war high grade key cards are graded by SGC?-not many.

  • when both companies started PCGS had already established itself in the coin world and the reputation they had developed followed over.

If the most advanced collectors in the world trust SGC with the pre-war cards, don't you think it is a matter of time before people can trust them with their Puljos rookies.

SGC - thru some very clever marketing over the past few years has "branded" their mark in the vintage world - and my guess is that they would not care if they didn't venture into the modern market.

Could they do it? Of course.

    I have a question.

What's the difference between an "advanced" collector and a "serious" collector? I hear these terms so often thrown out there.

Serious collectors don't have senses of humor.

I think the "advanced" collector has way more money to spend. image
