Your cities finest hour was ?

Speak up Philadelphia, Boston, NY, Detroit, Cincinnati, LA, Houston, Texas fans and others.

What was your cities finest hour ? When did you feel the best about one of your teams that you rooted for ?

Would Philly fans choose between the Moses Malone Sixers fo-fo-fo sweep against LA Lakers, the Tug McGraw leap after striking
out Willie Wilson, or the king of the NHL Flyers beating the mighty Russians 4-1 in 1975-76 ?

Would Boston fans say the 4 game comeback against the Yanks, or the Bird led Celts, or perhaps the Pats ?
Would Boston say it's finest hour was Doug Fluties miracle in the Orange Bowl ?

Would Detroit talk about the Pistons or the Red Wings ?

What gave you the biggest thrill, enjoyment, sense of pride, being on cloud 9 in all the years of rooting for your teams ?

    For me, it's a toss up between 1984 (Padres) and 1994-95 (Chargers)image

Both though, ended in severe disappointmentimage

    1) When Addai scored the go ahead touchdown to complete the comeback against the Patriots in the AFC championship game.

    2) When Reggie Miller scored 25 in the fourth quarter to beat the Knicks with Spike Lee yapping on the sidelines.

Since I am close to Tampa, I would say the Bucs winning Super Bowl 37.
However the biggest sports event to happen in Tampa was the Lightning winning Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.

Brett Hull's game winning no goal to win the cup!
Then going to the Dallas Stars parade and seeing Pantera jamming on one parade float......and just behind that the cup on the next float surrounded by Modano,Hull,Belfour...

  • The city I live in would be the 1999 Fiesta Bowl when UT beat FSU. Me personally? 1995 WS...Braves beating the Indians...Glavine's 8 shut out one-hit innings. Dave Justice solo shot. Wohlers shutting it down. Ahh...good times.
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.

The one that sicks out for Iowa was probably the Drew Tate to Warren Halloway to beat LSU.

That's a tough one. Historically, it's probably the Cards' first World Series win over the Yankees in '26 or maybe the Cards-Browns series in '44. I'll kinda literally answer the question, though, and go with the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XXXIV: the long touchdown reception by Bruce, the game-winning tackle by Mike Jones just short of the goal line. The Rams are not even close to being as much a part of the fabric of the community as the Cardinals are, but those two plays really made that an epic hour in St. Louis sports history.

Hands down the Final out of the 04 World Series, secondly was the last out of the ALCS of 04. The two greatest moments of Sports as far as Im concerned.

    1-04 World Series
    2-04 ALCS
    3-New England beating St.Louis

    Edit-The two worst..
    1-1986 World Series loss
    2-03 ALCS

for me it was the 04 ALCS. When I watch the DVDs these days (I still do), I nearly always watch the ALCS games
  • for red sox fans...it has to be the 2004 ALCS, biggest, most dramatic comeback in baseball history against the hated Yankee's?

I'm no sox fan, but I think baseball fans everywhere (except NY) were standing and cheering in their living rooms, pubs and bars.

The WS victory was all but assured, I wasnt surprised at all that the sox crushed the Cardinals.

I was so happy for my Mom, who was a long suffering Sox fan (her nickname for them was the Red Slobs) She was in disbelief at the comeback and was pretty darn skeptical that they would win the World Series! I'm glad she got to see them win it all before she passed away in 05'

What would be considered Buffalo's best hour ?
The city has had major heartbreaks, but you've got to
be pretty good to get as far as some of the teams have.

    There are several nice moments.

Detroit Tigers winning the 1968 World Series gave a nice emotional lift to a city that had suffered through a horrible riot the year before.

The "roar of 84" was a lot of fun as well, it was like nobody saw it coming, the Tigers caught fire and at one time in the season were
an incredible 35-5 and went on to win the World Series that fall.

In my lifetime (33 yrs) I'd say the Super Bowl run (highlighted by half the city giving Scott Norwood a standing O after his miss) the comeback against Houston in the playoffs, or last years Sabres team, just for the way the whole community really pulled together to support the team all year and through the playoffs...
