General Bohm-Ermolli was a general who played a key role on behalf of the Central Powers on the Carpathian Front during the First World War.
The city of Lemberg was critical for holding the region successfully agains the Russians.

I believe that the populace of the region had no love for the Czarist government and the artist of the grey medal may be a Ukranian, CHODZINSKI.

I know that my grandparents, who came from the region, preferred to think of themselves as being from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As I said, no love lost for the government of Nicholas II, which, I believe, controlled the region. Probably one thing that united Poles, Ukranians and Jews if nothing else did!

I don't know if there's anything that united Jews and Ukrainians in Lviv after WWII. There are still some bad memories surrounding the place. As a Russian that spent a large portion of his life in Ukraine, I've always disliked the attitude of West Ukrainians towards the Russians living in the Central/East parts of the country.

I know that among the Poles there is strong animosity toward the agreement between the USSR, Britain and the US which resulted in the borders we see today, resulting in the loss of Lvov to the Ukraine, which traditionally among Poles has been seen as a Polish city.
