Collecting tools and toys

The M.J. Roop closure still makes me sad. Such nice stuff. Anyway, I thought I would share my completely unsolicited list of collecting tools/toys. Anyone want to add to this?

  • Good idea for a thread- I never even thought of the cabinet idea. I'll have to consider getting one - so much better than my current closet/bookshelf/table arrangement!

    Anybody use the cabinets?

    The cabinets are very convenient.

Sometimes, they can be found CHEAP at business-fixture auctions.

Allstate Mfg. cases should also be noted as good home-storage/display items.

  • This one is made by C & N Footlockers. It retails for around $200.00. I paid much less because I bought this one at a yard sale from a neighbor who was getting out of the Navy. It was pratically brand new. It has survived 3 moves and is barely scratched on the outside.

  • If you go the footlocker route, make sure the plywood is covered in steel. My contents are so heavy, I feared the basic plywood ones would come apart at the seams. We move every 3 years, so this was an important feature for me.

Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

I like the wall displays the best, but you need a secure location. I have three roop boxes, and a few nice shoe boxes for the red mans and turkey reds, cant have those in boxes from payless..image
