Large Copper DENVER US MINT Souvenir Medal info needed

In what years was the large (34mm) copper US MINT-DENVER, COLORADO medallion included in the souvenir sets?
Were given a handful today still in the cello and was wondering since I do not collect Mint-Proof-nor Souvenir sets....and I have NO idea!
Thanks for the info in advance!

To my knowledge they were never part of any other mint package.
I still like mine!
I don't know if this was available in any other format or not.
The sets were sold in the gift shops of the Denver and Philadephia Mint.
The medals can still be purchased from the US Mint. Some of the
82 and 83 sets on eBay are phony put-togethers with plastic tokens.

OK, you made me look.
I checked several just to be sure but all the souvenir sets I saw from
'72 to '87 have one of these tokens. I've never seen a single example
of the late date sets so don't know that they contain one of these.
The '82 and '83 souvenir sets were available through the mail but the
fact was very poorly known at the time and there were very few sales.
Still mintages jumped because of this fact to 10,000 for the '82-P, 15,000
for the '83-P and 20,000 for both the Denvers.
Early issues are rarely encountered and the '72 had a reported mintage
of 400. On the tour they told me they were made primarily as an answer
for the wise crackers who asked for free samples. Of course, most were
$4 each though.
When I did a quick look online I too found conflicting information....some sites stated "Only in the 1982-1983 Souvenir Sets" and some sites said they were in "all" Mint sets.
I know you can order one from the mint, saw them last night on the Mint website.....but they are advertised as being bronze....the ones I have are nice red copper just like a new copper cent. So can I assume the ones in the Mint/Souvenir sets are copper and the ones ordered from the Mint are bronze?
They are still in the Mint cello with irregular edges so the Mint set coins have been cut out and the medals (tokens) remain in the cello.
They are well done. I wanted to learn about their distribution dates before deciding what to do with them.

The name is LEE!
It's in my 1992 Set as well!

<< <i>Thanks for the info guys.....so the consensus is they date from around 1971-72 to 1998?

They appear to be copper. I'm fairly sure that these have been sold
in other ways. The combined mintages of the souvenir sets is pretty
high since large numbers of these were made in '87. The total is at
least in the half million range which makes it remarkably common as
a token.
The mintage of the '76 bicentennial souvenir set was much lower than
others of the era and is probably in the 2000-2500 range. If this were
available from only these sets it would be a more interesting token.

THanks for the info...they are neat...will save them for a giveaway....or see if any kids that I am trying to get interested in coins will want them....or......heavens forbid...toss them on ebay.
Evening all!
