Numismatic News says high priced early bird badges at Long Beach push coin business off the bourse f

and into hotel rooms. The argument being why pay $150 for early entry when you can do business at a hotel. When fees were $25-$50 it was not a big deal but at $75-$200 it is. The writer says this is why the set up time was less active at the show than it has been in the

Too many "business" people don't seem to understand there are "happy spots" where you get the most $ for the buck, and instead, feel they should gouge to the point that very few will pay it (but there are always those "very few that will pay it".
Unless they are doing it to really cut down on the number of people who will pay the extra charge, for crowd control or whatever, it sounds like a dumb decision that is, rightfully so, backfiring on them.
It's like a convention I used to doubledip on in Vegas.....it went hand in hand with another convention and was free and very crowded. Then, it was a nominal charge. Fine. Still crowded. Now, it is pretty expensive. I haven't been to it in more than a few years now, largely because of that. I think it still has a crowd but nowhere near what it used to be.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I believe that the reason that the shows in California are having problems is due to taxes. This was an issue when the ANA wanted to have conventions there.

Fla doesn't have the taxes or the gestapo-like tax collectors.

Neither does Illinois. And at the ILNA fall show, the cost of an early bird badge is $30, but with a new location, that may change.
